Situated in the heart of the malaria-free Welgevonden Private Game Reserve in South Africa, Ekuthuleni Lodge invites you to savour true African luxury. Ekuthuleni Lodge, meaning 'place of peace', has sweeping views of the savannah plains, and is home to the Big Five and many other species of game. Each of the five suites offer intimacy and privacy, with magnificent views of the grasslands, giving a whole new meaning to 'nature on your doorstep'. We had an absolutely amazing stay at the Ekutheleni lodge and were genuinely impressed by every aspect of the experience. The accommodation is beautiful and blends perfectly with the surroundings.

Being located in such a remote area within the Welgevonden Game Reserve conservation reserve made the experience feel very special and immersive, while still being incredibly comfortable.”

WORLD RHINO DAY “Keep the five alive.”

Today we pay homage to the horned herbivores, gentle giants and unicorns of the wild. We honour the world’s five remaining rhinoceros species and recognise the vital work driving their survival. How many of the 5 rhino species have you seen in the wild?

Welgevonden Game Reserve, home to Ekuthuleni Lodge and Tshwene Lodge, protects two of the five rhino species and supports one of the largest white rhino populations of any private reserve in Africa. The critically endangered black rhino also finds sanctuary here.

Thanks to the relentless dedication of the reserve’s anti-poaching and management teams, these prehistoric creatures continue to thrive, offering our guests an unforgettable glimpse into the wild.

Encountering a rhino in its natural habitat is deeply humbling. It instils a profound respect for nature and reminds us why wild spaces must stay wild.

We don’t know about you, but we’re in love with this curious little youngster. Save for the cuteness. 

A baby vervet monkey (Chlorocebus pygerythrus), spends its time exploring the canopy, learning to forage for pods, seeds, and fruits and staying close to their troop.

A boma dinner is one of the many quintessential safari experiences that will stay with you for a lifetime.

There’s nothing quite like dining under the starlit African sky while you enjoy a feast of mouth-watering cuisine and share stories of the day’s adventures.
