Lions and rhinos usually hog the attention (and honestly, fair enough), but sometimes you have to break the grid for the world traveller.

Meet the European bee-eater (merops apiaster). They migrate thousands of kilometres from across Europe and Asia just to spend their summer in the “Place of Peace.”

With their flame-coloured back and gemstone-blue belly, they’re living proof that some of the best sightings at Ekuthuleni often come in smaller packages.

“What makes this lodge so amazing is the staff. Every single person is warm, friendly and helpful. Jonas is the best guide, his experience and knowledge are unmatched. Sam the butler is attentive and friendly. Issac cooks the best food and caters for all dietary requests. Gemima, Mmapula and Martha keep everything clean and tidy, they are so warm and friendly too. Shauna and Nolan the managers are helpful and friendly people.”
