🦒🌳 Giraffes: The Silent Gardeners of the Savanna! 🌿🦒

2023 saw the introduction of giraffe to ZuluWaters from a property close by which had an over population and needed to reduce numbers.

Did you know that giraffes are not just the tallest animals on Earth, but also key players in maintaining a healthy ecosystem? 🌍

🌱 Giraffes love munching on acacia trees, but their dining habits actually benefit the environment! By selectively feeding on certain branches, they prune the trees, promoting new growth and ensuring a balanced ecosystem for other animals. Nature's landscape architects! 🌳

🚨 However, giraffe populations are declining due to habitat loss and poaching. By supporting giraffe conservation efforts, we're not only protecting these graceful giants but also preserving the delicate web of life they help sustain. Let's stand tall for giraffes and the biodiversity they nurture! ☀️🦓 🌿🦒

It's hard to believe that it has been 20 years since ZuluWaters was founded!!

By connecting 6 old cattle farms, a 3,000 hectare reserve was established. Dedication was given to restoring the hard-used land to indigenous flora and fauna. Recognised as a pioneering effort in environmental conservation, ZuluWaters became one of the first private Nature Reserves in KZN to be declared under the provincial Wildlife Stewardship Program.
Alien gum, wattle and poplar plantations were cleared, watercourses rehabilitated and indigenous grasses planted. Finally, wildlife was re-introduced to bring the land back to its former glory. Sustainable tourism is being incorporated into the way of the Reserve. Ultimately ZuluWaters provides an ideal conservation area for wildlife, including the endangered bearded vulture, blue crane, oribi, brown hyena and white rhino.
