Moorreesburg is a rural town situated about 100 km north of Cape Town on the N7 to Namibia. It is a little town known for its friendly people. If you require breaking away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Moorreesburg is the place to be with its tranquil atmosphere of the country side, as well as the peace and quietness.
From Moorreesburg, day trips can be taken to various destinations such as Riebeek Kasteel (renowned for olive and wine tasting), Darling (to visit Evita se Perron of the satire artist Pieter Dirk Uys), Langebaan, Hopefield, etc., along breathtaking and picturesque winter green and summer gold wheat fields and vineyards. Moorreesburg and surrounding areas has endless fields of wheat and the only wheat museum in South Africa. The wheat industry museum is one of only two in the world and agricultural tours are arranged by Moorreesburg tourism.
Watersport on the Berg River or Misverstand Dam, or camping on the banks of the Berg River can be done by the adventurous. There is a 9-hole golf course with affordable green fees, golf carts, bar facilities and catering facilities.
The Moorreesburg Agricultural show is an annual festival for the whole family. Other surrounding towns also have their annual agricultural festivals such as Malmesbury, Darling and Hopefield.
