Half Moon Hollow is an Earth ship style cottage in a peaceful valley on a farm in Ruiterbos, just 30 km outside Mossel Bay. A secluded, off the beaten track haven where you can escape from the mad world, relax and unwind. Nestled in an indigenous forest next to a running stream, the one bedroom cottage offers an unusual open plan lounge with fireplace. The kitchen is well equipped and will cater f

or all your needs, while the main bedroom provides a queen size bed built from wooden logs. The majority of the timber used in the cottage was grown and harvested on the farm, or sustainably sourced in the area. Beautiful handcrafted finishes are evident throughout the cottage. The oval blackwood lounge doors lead onto a shaded wooden deck with sunken plunge pool, from where you can enjoy amazing views. Relish in a slow afternoon braai or curl up with a book in the armchairs while taking in the sounds of the wildlife. The cottage offers a complete off the grid experience - electricity is provided by solar, water comes from the mountain stream and a compost toilet is used. Nature lovers will enjoy the walking trails through the wild indigenous gardens which have been established over a period of many years by the owners. The eradication of alien plants and expansion of indigenous forest is an ongoing activity and a real labor of love! Take a swim in the farm dam and do not be surprised if you see some bushbuck, monkeys or other wildlife on your way there. Nearby attractions include high tea at Eight Bells hotel, homemade hamburgers and beer at Ruiterbos Lodge and horse rides at Outeniqua Moon whilst all the beaches and holiday activities of Mossel Bay are only 20 minutes away. In the spirit of a unique nature experience, there is no TV or Wi-Fi reception and only limited cell reception. The main farmhouse is nearby and the owners are available if needed. We look forward to welcoming you to our piece of paradise! To help maintain our eco-friendly, self-sustaining lifestyle, we use composting toilets. Instead of water, a scoop of sawdust is used.
