Conscious Tourism in Action
As the owner of Villa Palmera, I believe tourism should do more than welcome guests - it should honour place, people, and heritage.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of being involved in a two-day restorative tourism programme in the Mossel Bay township, supporting from the sidelines and learning alongside an inspiring group of 24 local creatives and entrepreneurs.
Supported by DEDAT and facilitated by CAUSE, with leadership from Nicolette Booyens (award-winning CEO and business development specialist) the focus was on unlocking authentic, community-led tourism experiences from hidden gems to multi-sensory adventures rooted in everyday spaces.
In two weeks, participants will return to pitch ideas that could open new income streams, spark collaboration, and add depth to Mossel Bay’s tourism story.
Alongside running Villa Palmera, I’m grateful to serve as Vice Chair of Mossel Bay Tourism and Chairperson of the Friends of the Dias Museum -the only maritime museum in Africa. These roles shape my commitment to conscious, inclusive tourism that celebrates culture, history, and shared futures.
This is the kind of tourism that leaves a positive footprint for visitors and communities alike ✨
