There is a rhythm to the wilderness that existed long before any of us arrived. In the northern Kruger, floods are not unusual. But this year, that rhythm arrived with force, impacting not only The Outpost and Pel’s Post, but others in the region too.
Severe damage to the landscape and infrastructure meant the area remained inaccessible for some time as floodwaters receded. Once limited access was restored, initial assessments by professional engineering and infrastructure teams determined that the damage to both lodges is more significant than first anticipated.
As a result, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐥’𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 while essential repairs and rebuilding take place. At this stage, we are unable to confirm a reopening date as more detailed assessments are still required.
It is a challenging season for our teams whose lives are rooted in this landscape, and for the guests who had been planning their journeys to the northern Kruger. We are deeply grateful for your patience and understanding as our reservations team supports all affected bookings.
And yet, even in disruption, there is perspective. The landscape is not static. It shifts. It renews. Floods, while destructive in the short term, carry long-term regenerative benefits for the ecosystems they move through.
We will continue to share updates as progress unfolds. And when The Outpost and Pel’s Post reopen, they will do so strengthened, ready to once again offer the experience we are so proud of.
