The Traveller's Rest

An idyllic place situated halfway between Pietermaritzburg and Greytown along the Albert Falls Amble. The Traveller’s Rest was built as early as 1855 to accommodate early travellers, whose only means of transport was horseback and ox wagon. Rich in historic tales the establishment is rumoured to have accommodated the Prince Imperial of France before his death in 1879. During the Boer war (1899-190

2), the Traveller’s Rest was converted and used as an English Garrison. The historic Cape Dutch style building has recently been lovingly restored to accentuate all original features. Built above the drift on the Sterkspruit River, boasting beautiful indigenous gardens amongst the pecan nut plantation, the Traveller’s Rest offers guests a number of accommodation options in a picturesque and tranquil setting.
