Situated in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, in the foothills of the Drakensburg mountains, Brahman Hills has undergone an extensive renovation since its days as the old Windmills Hotel. The new Brahman Hills team has grown and developed at the same time as the property through a complete facelift in 2015, to create a country home

away from home that promises real experiences, with real people in the tranquil surroundings. Nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Midlands, yet just a stone’s throw away from the N3 Highway, Brahman Hills is easily accessible and central to the famous Midlands Meander. And with either hotel or self-catering accommodation available, together with a range of noteworthy facilities, including a restaurant, coffee bar, cellar and underground lounge/bar, as well as a variety of eventing venues seating up to 400 people, Brahman Hills is now a destination of choice for those looking for the perfect wedding and conference venue or idyllic country escape. We are proud to be one of only two official Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Partner Gardens in South Africa and honored to have been named Overseas Regional Winner in the 2023 RHS Partner Garden of the Year competition. Today marks the start of National Environment Month in South Africa 🇿🇦, reminding us that our sanctuary is not just scenery or a garden, but a living ecosystem that deserves care, protection, and intention. 💚

Our relationship with this land is expressed in the way we tend it: through conservation and biodiversity efforts, renewable energy, pesticide-free gardens, composting systems that return life to the soil, water recycling that respects every drop, and beekeeping that supports the quiet rhythms of pollination and balance. Alongside this, our renewable efficiency initiatives have been recognised through industry awards, and we are also proud to be part of the Green Lung initiative here in KZN, a collective effort to protect and restore the natural landscapes that sustain us.

This month, we pause to honour the land — and to keep tending it with the same care it so generously gives back. 🌳🌱

May was a month of growth, connection, and meaningful milestones at Brahman Hills. ✨

From showcasing the beauty of the Midlands and connecting with industry leaders at Africa’s Travel Indaba, to being proudly announced as South Africa’s second Green Lung site, this month reminded us of the impact tourism can have when people, place, and purpose come together.

We watched the vision of the Serenity Garden and record-breaking 22 hectarte Labyrinth continue to emerge from concept into reality, revealing the shape of something truly special that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

We also welcomed couples and wedding specialists to our Bridal Expo, where inspiration and creativity filled the day!

As we look back on May, we are grateful for every guest, partner, supporter, and team member who continues to be part of our journey.

Here’s to creating even more beautiful experiences, fostering meaningful connections, nurturing the land we call home, and embracing all that lies ahead. 💚

Sculpted by stone, a Labyrinth is rising ✨

The stone labyrinth at Serenity Garden is steadily taking shape, with structural walls now emerging to trace the spirals and pathways of what will become one of the defining experiences within the 22-hectare landscape.

Soon, these foundations will carry over 1,000 tonnes of hand-cut stone, transforming the labyrinth into a monumental landscape feature rooted in stillness, movement, and discovery.

Equally extraordinary is the living landscape being cultivated within it. The planting scheme, designed by landscaper Tim Steyn, centres around more than 5,000 aloes currently being grown specifically for the labyrinth. Layered with grasses, succulents, and indigenous textures, the planting palette will weave through the stone walls to create colour, rhythm, and seasonal change throughout the year.

What is rising is far more than a structure. It is the creation of an icon, where stone, planting, and landscape come together in a truly immersive experience.
