Fordoun Hotel and Spa Fordoun is an award-winning boutique hotel with 22 individually themed rooms, a luxury spa, and the fine-dining Skye Bistro.

Nestled in the KZN Midlands, Nottingham Road, it offers self-catering cottages, a chapel, and venues for weddings & conferences. Fordoun caters for resident guests of the hotel as well as day visitors during the week at the Spa. Skye restaurant is open to the guests through out the week and weekend however booking is essential.

Meet Chef Ricardo Venter

Behind every memorable meal at Fordoun is a story, and Chef Ricardo’s began in Port Shepstone, where he was born and raised.

After attending Port Shepstone High School, Ricardo followed his passion for food to Pretoria, training at the Capital Hotel School before beginning his culinary career at Suncoast and later the Beverly Hills Hotel.

In May 2021, his journey brought him to Fordoun, where he joined our kitchen as Sous Chef. Over the years, his dedication, creativity and quiet passion for his craft became an integral part of the Fordoun dining experience.

In June 2026, Ricardo stepped into his new role as Head Chef, taking the mantle and making it his own while continuing to celebrate the warmth, flavour and sense of place that define dining at Fordoun.

We are incredibly proud to have Chef Ricardo leading our kitchen and excited for everything still to come from his table.
