MEDIA STATEMENT - Official Reopening Announcement
To our valued visitors, tourism partners, stakeholders, and members of the travel industry:
We are pleased to announce that we have received official confirmation that the road closure affecting access to the Cango Caves has been lifted. Although a stop-and-go traffic management system remains in operation along the affected section, the route is now accessible to visitors.
Having awaited this confirmation, we are delighted to confirm that preparations for reopening have already commenced. The Cango Caves will officially resume full operations on Saturday, 11 July 2026.
As South Africa's oldest tourist attraction and one of the nation's most treasured natural heritage sites, we look forward to once again welcoming visitors beneath the surface to experience the exceptional beauty, rich history, and geological wonder of the Cango Caves.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our visitors, tourism partners, and the broader community for your patience, understanding, and unwavering support throughout this challenging period. We are excited to reopen our doors and to continue sharing this extraordinary heritage destination with visitors from across South Africa and around the world.
We look forward to welcoming you back.
