Night Safari last night picked up a few interesting encounters. A leopard drinking quietly at the Ngwenyeni River was stunning and two separate barn owl sightings were probably the highlight of the safari. However, hyenas always try and steal the show. These guys were on what appeared to be a baby impala kill. Their interactions with one another were amazing to witness.

A morning safari turned into a quite a treat with these wild dogs giving a good show. Our new guide Henry traveled north towards Mopani and spent 45 minutes with this pack. From harassing a herd of zebras (who weren't too amused) to making a successful "kill" (a mopane stick!) it made for a great morning.

The critter cam getting a thorough investigation from one of our ellies. This camera survived - the other didn't fare as well being yanked off the tree and left on the path in a dozen pieces.

Time moves on. After the fire it is nice to see the boys back at their drinking spot in front of the lodge.

So nice to have the hyenas coming up to the lodge every night for a drink after binging on the elephant (Otto). Definitely strange though seeing them lugging off a huge stick! They all have such a naughty look...

Unfortunately our resident elephant that used to come up to the lodge almost everyday died a week ago. Old age caught up with him. Sad that he is gone but life goes on and here is one hyena that is taking advantage of his death.

Yesterday we had a bush fire that raged around Tingala and the other game lodges. We lost about 60 hectares of veld to the fire but were lucky the winds favoured us in the end. A big thank you to those who helped put out the fire and get it under control and our thoughts go out to all those animals affected by it. Below are some of the resident elephants stopping by the lodge fleeing from the fire. The fire has spread into the Kruger Park and the staff there are doing a great job doing burn backs and sorting things out there.

Great Half Day Safari with our Italian guests. First time on safari for them. Hot and dry so we saw tons of elephants at the waterholes. 2 big herds of buffalo (+ 500), lots of general game and the cutest squirrel. But the highlight was left for later in the day when we had 3 wild dogs running down the road searching for something to hunt. They kept bumping into buffalo which was fun to watch - they acted just like normal dogs would! We had them to ourselves for half an hour before they went into the bush for some impala. And if that wasn't enough we had 2 more wild dogs half an hour later!
