Good news if you are planning on entering or exiting the Kruger using Orpen Gate

Some good news! We will be opening the Orpen Road detour for this weekend to allow people access to the Orpen Road.

We have not yet completed all the work, but the road is now in a condition that will allow people to travel through over the weekend.

Please note that on Monday, work will resume on the road, and access may again be restricted while the remaining work is completed.

The Orpen Road detour is now open for use to access the Kruger National Park over the public holiday and weekend.

This has truly been a partnership between many different role players, and I would like to sind5,cerely thank everyone who contributed to making this possible. I am not going to name everyone, as I would be worried about leaving someone out – but please know that your efforts are greatly apprecia
I would like to ask all road users to respect the temporary road and adhere to the speed limit. Please drive carefully and responsibly. This is a temporary road, and we need to look after it and keep it safe and usable while we wait for SANRAL to repair the flooded section of the R531.

Earthquake???!!

THERE WAS A
LlGHT MAGNITUDE 2,9 EARTHQUAKE HIT 66 KM AWAY FROM PHALABORWA ON SATURDAY NIGHT AT 11H40 PM.

There was a Light magnitude 2.9 earthquake hit 66 km (41 mi) away from Phalaborwa, Limpopo, South Africa, late in the evening of Saturday, Sep 19, 2026 at 11.40 pm.


The depth of the quake could not be determined, but is assumed to be shallow.The quake was reported felt by some people near the epicenter.

The closest larger town near the epicenter is Phalaborwa, a town with more than 110,000 inhabitants in South Africa, in 66 km (41 mi) distance to the southwest, but it is unlikely that the quake was felt there.
There are 3 reports for this quake. Out of these, 2 people indicated they felt it. The quake was reported to have been felt in up to approx. 60 km (37 mi) distance, with isolated cases to have felt the quake even 62 km (39 mi) away.

Most reports came from Phalaborwa and Giyani (1 report) (77 km or 48 mi to the west), a town with 37,000 inhabitants.
