Limpopo isn’t only about safari.

A day trip along the Panorama Route is the perfect change of pace from your Kruger days. The Panorama Route, which runs through both Limpopo and Mpumalanga, shows you a completely different side of South Africa. Viewpoints that leave you quiet for a moment, deep gorges, waterfalls, and those famous rock formations.

What you can do and see along the way:
🌱 Blyde River Canyon and the Three Rondavels
🌱 God’s Window for endless views
🌱 Bourke’s Luck Potholes
🌱 Lisbon Falls or Berlin Falls
🌱 Graskop Gorge Lift for a short walk surrounded by lush greenery

It’s an easy day trip when you feel like something other than wildlife spotting, without having to go far. From Phalaborwa, it’s about a 2 to 2.5 hour drive to the Panorama Route highlights. And our lodge is perfectly located to combine these kinds of outings with your Kruger days.

You’re hoping for the Big 5. Fair enough. But Kruger always gives you something in return.

Sometimes it’s a lion in the first hour. Often it’s not. And still, at the end of the day, you almost always step out with that same feeling: this was a special day and we saw so much wildlife.

Because along the way, you notice so much. Impalas crossing the road, giraffes appearing between the trees, zebras out in the open. But also warthogs disappearing into the grass with their tails straight up. And often, herds of elephants moving at their own calm pace.

Look up too, and scan the branches.

Chances are you’ll spot these birds today: the yellow billed hornbill (Zazu), the lilac breasted roller, the Egyptian goose, and vultures circling high above.

Kruger isn’t only about what you’re searching for. It’s about what you find along the way.

Save this post for your safari.
And send it to the person you’d love to experience this with.

First time in Kruger National Park? Here’s how to get the most out of your self drive from Phalaborwa Gate.

If you only have one day in Kruger, you want calm, rhythm, and realistic expectations. And yes, of course you want to spot the Big 5, but remember: you’re in a wild area and animals don’t always show themselves when you want them to.

A mini plan for your day?
🦁 Enter as early as possible (around 5:30 am, for example). Mornings are more active and the light is beautiful.

🦁 Drive slowly and stop more often than you think. In Kruger, you don’t “win” by covering distance, you win by paying attention. Around 20 km/h is fast enough and it seriously increases your chances.

🦁 Build your day towards Letaba Rest Camp. If you take it slow and really take your time along the way, you’ll get there in about 2 hours. Perfect for coffee, lunch, and a quick reset.

🦁 Then pick one direction so you don’t end up rushing. You can continue north to Mopani for extra peace and scenery, or head a bit south towards Olifants Rest Camp for a different view and vibe.

That way, your safari won’t feel like a race, but an experience that stays with you.

One thing many guests do not expect when they arrive in Phalaborwa is how green and peaceful it feels at Bush Villas on Kruger. Behind the gate, our gardens are a quiet little oasis.

Sit back on your terrace and let the day unfold. Views over the pond, birds coming and going, and vervet monkeys that are often around. Sometimes that is exactly what you want after a day out.

In Kruger you do not need a strict plan to experience something special.

Often, the best sightings happen when you simply drive and stay curious.

Every turn can bring a surprise. Elephants crossing the road. An eagle above the river. Fresh tracks in the sand.

Staying close to the gate has a clear advantage. You can enter early and enjoy the quiet hours.

After a day in Kruger, it is nice to slow down.

At Bush Villas on Kruger you return to green, well kept gardens that feel like a calm oasis.

Sit on your own terrace. Shower. Have a drink. Light the braai whenever you're ready.

The advantage is simple. You truly unwind, while staying close to the park entrance.
