A mere two and a half hours’ drive from Johannesburg, Thaba lodge is an exclusive use self‐catering luxury lodge situated in the malaria free Black Rhino Reserve in the wilderness area of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. No members of the general public are permitted to self‐drive in the wilderness area, thus providing guests the added privacy and exclusivity. A 20 minute drive to Sun City affords gu

ests the opportunity to visit this world renowned resort. Black Rhino guests are permitted in open ranger‐driven vehicles into the main Pilanesberg park. Thatched Thaba Lodge sleeps 10 people in 5 beautifully designed and fitted individual air-conditioned suites. Two of the suites are inter‐leading to cater for families with small children. No expense has been spared in providing superior quality cotton linen and other furnishings. Each suite has its own tea and coffee making facility, a bar fridge and safe. A double shower and double hand basins complement the beautiful bath in the en‐suite bathrooms. The enormous double volume main entertainment area consists of a fully fitted open plan kitchen with ample fridge and freezer space, scullery with dishwasher, dining area, casual lounge with flat screen TV (DSTV and Netflix), reading lounge with library, pub (which guests self stock) with an ice making machine, and purified water cooler, and a wonderful veranda with a gas Weber braai and spectacular views of the mountain after which it is named. The lodge has a splash pool and sun deck, boma and braai area, an elevated viewing deck, and is surrounded by a non‐intrusive electrified fence to keep guests safe from the big 5 which are regularly spotted in the area. There is cell phone and free WiFi coverage at the lodge. Self‐catering allows guests to create their own meals with ingredients of their choice, and the lodge is serviced by 2 maids. The lodge is managed by Marike and Zander, both qualified game rangers, who live on site, and are there to assist as necessary, and to take guests on game drives in an open vehicle twice a day, included in the daily rate.
