A few weeks ago, these rooms looked very different.

The floods left their mark across Stanley Island, and like many parts of the island, our rooms required significant care, patience, and hard work to bring it back to life.

Today, weโ€™re proud to share how far weโ€™ve come.

Behind every restored room, cleared pathway, and repaired space is a team that has worked tirelessly through challenging conditions, showing incredible determination and commitment every step of the way.

While there is still much to do, we are excited to be preparing to welcome guests back. Our accommodation and Stowaway are on track to reopen in July, and we canโ€™t wait to share the island with you again.

Stanley Island may be operational, but the journey of restoration will continue for some time. We ask for your patience as we keep rebuilding, improving, and restoring this special place we all love.

Thank you for your support, encouragement, and belief in us throughout this process.

Introducing our newest project: De Bruijn Huisie.

A place that is especially close to our hearts, De Bruijn Huisie is not only part of the Stanley Island collection, but part of our family story too.

Nestled in the beautiful Little Karoo town of Prince Albert, this thoughtfully restored home was created as a space to slow down, reconnect, and experience one of South Africaโ€™s most charming destinations.

If Prince Albert isnโ€™t already on your travel list, consider this your sign. From breathtaking mountain views and rich history to incredible food and local character, itโ€™s a town that captures your heart.

Weโ€™re so excited to share this special place with you and canโ€™t wait to welcome you to De Bruijn Huisie.

A little update from our side.

The past few weeks have been filled with hard work, patience, and more than a few surprises. While the river continues to settle and reshape parts of the island, weโ€™re seeing progress every day.

Our team has been hard at work clearing debris, restoring pathways, repairing damaged areas, and preparing Stanley Island for its next chapter. It hasnโ€™t always been easy, but each day brings us one step closer.

Amongst it all, nature continues to remind us why we love this place. The milkwood forest remains as magical as ever, the zebras continue their daily wanderings, and slowly but surely the island is finding its rhythm again.

Weโ€™re excited to share that weโ€™re working towards reopening both our accommodation and Stowaway from 15 July.

Thank you for your patience, support, and all the messages of encouragement. We see them, and they mean more than you know.

We canโ€™t wait to welcome you back to Stanley Island soon. ๐Ÿค

As we begin restoring Stanley Island after the recent floods, weโ€™ve realised just how much history lives within these shores - stories weโ€™ve never truly shared.

While Stanley Island has been around for centuries, our family became the first to build on the island in 1986. Since then, weโ€™ve witnessed firsthand how the Keurbooms River can shape, change, and sometimes completely transform the landscape around us.

Through every flood, every challenge, and every new chapter, Stanley Island has remained home. What began with our grandparents was carried forward by the next generation and now continues with us. For nearly four decades, our family has adapted alongside the river, rebuilding when needed and embracing the ever-changing nature of island life.

As we work towards reopening, we thought it was the perfect time to take a trip down memory lane and share some of the stories, photographs, and moments that have shaped Stanley Island over the years.

Swipe right to see the impact of the Great Plett Flood in 2007, what Stanley Island looked like in 2024, and the changes left behind by the 2026 floods.

The river has shaped our island for generations. Now itโ€™s time to share the story.

What a difference a few millimetres can make.

Last week, we faced another flood threat and spent the week holding thumbs. Thankfully, Stanley Island narrowly escaped the worst of it.

The road to recovery continues, but weโ€™re grateful that all our hard work remains intact and that everyone on the island is safe and smiling ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿฆ“

Our hearts go out to those who were heavily affected by the floods. Weโ€™re thinking of you and sending our support during this difficult time.

As we wait for the river to settle and find its course once again, it continues to reveal pieces of Stanley Islandโ€™s story.

One of the most unexpected discoveries has been the remains of our original restaurant and boma, uncovered after 19 years. A place that hosted countless celebrations, parties, gatherings, and memories before being washed away by the river in 2007.

Seeing these remnants emerge from beneath the sand has been a powerful reminder of the islandโ€™s history: where weโ€™ve come from, the people who have shaped this place, and the memories that live on here.

While every day brings new challenges in the wake of the floods, it also brings moments of reflection and hope. Our team continues to work tirelessly as we rebuild, restore, and look toward the future.
