IMPORTANT NOTICE from Cairnbrogie Farm: We have taken the difficult decision to close the farm to the public until further notice and to implement precautionary quarantine measures and strict movement controls due to one of the largest Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreaks in recent years and considering the recent increase in cases in both the Western Cape and Eastern Cape.

Please note the following:

1. 1. There are currently no cases of Foot-and-Mouth Disease at Cairnbrogie. This is a preventative measure.

2. The closest suspected case to date is in the Hartenbos/George area.

3. Foot-and-Mouth Disease does not affect humans — it is an animal disease.

4. Our milk, including The Farmer's Dairy UV treated milk, remains a safe product.

At present, the risk to the welfare of the Cairnbrogie dairy herd from visitor movement is too great, and these precautions will remain in place while vaccination programmes are rolled out in the area. Foot-and-Mouth Disease is a highly contagious viral disease that spreads between animals through direct contact, as well as via contaminated clothing, boots, equipment and vehicles. It affects cloven-hoofed animals such as cattle, sheep, goats and pigs, causing painful lesions in the mouth and around the hooves and teats.

We remain in regular contact with state veterinary authorities and local farming networks, and we continue to monitor the situation closely.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support. We hope to welcome visitors back once it is safe to do so.

For more information, please call Andrew 0825514638.
