“It’s honestly just one of those places where you immediately feel relaxed. We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely stay again when we’re back in Plettenberg Bay!”

The MICHELIN Guide’s hotel selection is independently curated by its Inspectors, recognising exceptional places to stay around the world. Hotels are considered for their architecture and design, quality of service, connection to their destination and value and individuality.

With a history dating back to 1777, The Old Rectory is a place where heritage and contemporary hospitality come together. We take great pride in sharing this special piece of Plettenberg Bay’s history with our guests and to have it recognised on an international platform is a tremendous honour.

We’re incredibly proud to share that The Old Rectory Hotel & Spa has been ranked the No. 15 hotel in South Africa in the 2026 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards.

This marks the second time The Old Rectory has been recognised in the Readers’ Choice Awards, making this an especially meaningful moment in our story.

From a neglected heritage building restored more than a decade ago to the place you know and love today, it’s been quite a journey.

We’re keeping the Heritage Day celebrations going into the weekend, gathering under the milkwoods next Saturday for an afternoon of good food, good company and good old fashioned braaivleis.

Imagine a braai at a friend’s house – if that friend was a chef! Sirloin steak, lamb chops, line fish and peri-peri prawns will be coming off the fire all afternoon, alongside all the sides you’d hope to find at a proper South African feast.
