Made for Sleeping In

White muslin falls from the four corners of the bed, tied back loosely, an arrangement that makes the room feel both open and enclosed at once: private without being heavy. The gentle folds of the fabric create a sense of softness, inviting you to linger a little longer in the comfort of the bed.

The natural light filtering through the muslin adds a warm glow to the space, making it feel cozy and intimate. Beneath it, the bed is properly dressed: white waffle cotton, floral pillows in pink and cream, layered with the care that makes the difference between a room that looks beautiful and one that actually feels it. The pillows are plump and inviting, beckoning you to rest your head and let out a deep sigh of relaxation.

The layered bedding is a masterclass in texture and tone, with the crisp cotton and soft linen combining to create a sense of luxurious comfort. A small wrought iron chandelier hangs above, its dark metal a good foil for all that white and linen softness.

This is a room that asks nothing of you except that you stay a little longer than you planned. It's a space that encourages you to slow down, to take a deep breath, and to let the stresses of the day melt away. It's a room that whispers sweet nothings in your ear, tempting you to indulge in a lazy morning, a guilt-free afternoon, or a peaceful evening.

The Boys Are In

The basset hounds have claimed the ultimate spot in the store, and they know it, stretched out languidly across the plush, velvety softness of the Persian rug as the lamps flicker to life and the evening settles in with a warm, cozy glow.

The atmosphere is tranquil, the perfect setting to unwind after a long day, with the soft hum of conversation and the gentle clinking of glasses in the background. Behind him, the pièce de résistance: that stunning burgundy bar counter, a masterpiece of craftsmanship, with its deep, rich wine-red hue and beautifully cross-panelled design, topped with a elegant cream lamp that casts a warm, inviting light.

The counter is surrounded by an impressive array of glassware, silverware, and exquisite framed portraits that adorn the walls, while the Persian rugs stretch out as far as the eye can see, creating a sense of opulence and sophistication. Whether you're looking to add a touch of luxury to your guest house, dining room, or any other space, this incredible piece is sure to earn its keep for another fifty years and beyond.

So why wait? Come and find it. Open daily, our doors are waiting for you to discover this incredible treasure.

The Fire is Warming the Shop

Revaldo has the fire going early. The store is warm before the town has properly woken up.

There is something particularly good about browsing among antiques and beautiful objects when the air outside is cold and the room inside is not. Come for that warmth and linger among the pieces.

The Fig Leaf is open for breakfast — warm oats, dark coffee, and a table with no particular reason to leave in a hurry.

The store is open daily. Breakfast at Fig Leaf from eight.

Rooms with a Story to Tell

Every room at Prince Albert Country Stay is layered with antique details, old linen, vintage furniture, and the sort of collected charm that makes a place feel lived in long before you arrive.

There are carved chairs beside linen curtains, old hooks hung with soft woven throws, and beautiful pieces gathered over years rather than decorated in a hurry. Nothing feels overly polished. It simply feels comfortable, quiet, and deeply rooted in an older way of living.

Much of what you see in the rooms can also be found at The Country Store should you wish to take a little of that old-world charm home with you.

The Country Store is open daily.

Two Pieces. One Perfect Hallway

A grand shoe cupboard, its original brass keyhole intact, the wood grain deep and warm and entirely unbothered by time. Built in an era when furniture was made to outlast the people who owned it. Beside it, a set of library steps, elegantly turned and solid in the hand, the kind that once stood in studies lined floor to ceiling with books worth reaching for.

There is a particular feeling that comes from walking into a hallway that has been put together with a real eye. Not a showroom eye, but the eye of someone who understands that a home should feel like it means something. These two pieces carry that quality. They don't demand attention. They simply make everything around them more eloquent.

Antiques like these hold something that no new piece ever quite manages. Weight. Warmth. A history you inherit the moment they cross your threshold.

Both are in store now at Prince Albert Country Store.

Come and find them. If they are yours, you will know it the moment you see them.

A shop tour with Colleen

Colleen is walking you through the Fig Leaf Café and the Prince Albert Country Store, and both are well worth the visit.

Breakfast first. The menu changes with the seasons but the care never does. Think divine breakfasts, freshly baked scones, creamy oats with Nutella and honey, and grapefruit the way it should be served. The kind of morning meal that makes you order a second coffee just to sit a little longer.

The Country Store is its own discovery. A beautiful collection of ceramic vases sits alongside homemade fig jams, locally pressed olive oils, and the kind of biscuits you will absolutely take home. The vases range from bold statement pieces to quiet, elegant forms that work on a dining table, a bookshelf, or a windowsill. Something for every space and every style.

Pop in for breakfast. Take a little piece of the Karoo home with you.

The store that feels like someone's most beautiful life

There are shops. And then there are places like this. The Prince Albert Country Store is not arranged. It is composed. Every corner holds something that has no business being this beautiful — a dressmaker's dummy wearing a century-old lace shawl, a mahogany display cabinet glowing with crystal and silver, oil paintings leaning against walls as though they simply couldn't decide where to hang yet.

The ceramics. The glassware. The framed prints from another era entirely. A wicker chair with a crimson throw draped just so. None of it matches. All of it belongs.
This is what happens when a space is curated with genuine love rather than commercial intention. When the person behind it has an eye that cannot be taught only lived. Each piece here has been chosen, restored, or rescued. Nothing is accidental. Nothing is ordinary.

People walk in looking for something specific and leave with something they didn't know they needed. A piece of glass that catches light in a particular way. A painting that looks exactly right above the fireplace they've been trying to fix for years. A small beautiful object that makes their home feel more like themselves.
That is the quiet magic of this place.

It doesn't sell you anything. It simply shows you what's possible when a space is filled with things that matter.

Come in. Take your time. There is no rush here.

WHEN THE KAROO STORMS ROLL IN, THIS IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE RESPONSE

Outside, the Karoo is doing what it does in winter. The sky has closed in. The roads are wet. The mountains have disappeared into cloud and the wind has found every gap it can.

Inside, the Basset Hounds have the right idea.

Curled up. Warm. Completely at peace with the world and its weather.

There is a particular kind of comfort that only a stormy day can produce — the kind that makes stillness feel earned. A thick rug underfoot. Warmth that reaches your bones. The sound of rain on an old Karoo roof while you have absolutely nowhere to be.

This is what Prince Albert Country Stay feels like on a day like today.

If the storms have caught you out — roads closed, plans changed, the pass making its own decisions — please don't hesitate to reach out. We have warm rooms, good food, and if you're very lucky, a Basset Hound or two who will judge you quietly and then fall asleep on your feet.

We take care of everyone here. Message us directly to check availability.

Some evenings deserve more than ordinary.

The kind of evening that begins slowly. A drink poured without hurry. Ice settling into a silver bucket that catches the last of the light. Glasses that feel substantial in the hand — vintage, considered, quietly beautiful.
These are the pieces you'll find in the Prince Albert Country Store. Restored vintage silver and glassware. Old whiskey decanters with the elegant lines of another era. Ice buckets that have chilled bottles at gatherings long before yours — and are ready to do it again, on your table, in your home.

What sets them apart is the restoration. Each piece has been brought back with immaculate care. Not stripped of its history. Not made to look new. Just polished back to its truest self — warm, gleaming, and completely alive.

There is something deeply satisfying about entertaining with objects like these. They do something that modern barware simply cannot. They slow the evening down. They invite your guests to notice. They say, quietly and without fuss, that this gathering was worth preparing for.

That is the quiet luxury of vintage done properly.
Come into the Store. Hold one of these pieces in your hand. Feel the difference.
Some evenings deserve more than ordinary — and now yours can have it.

The Karoo has a way of finding its way into your heart — and your home.
It happens without you planning it. A slow morning. A quiet street. The particular stillness of a town that has always known how to rest. And then you step into the Prince Albert Country Store and something catches your eye.

A Bowles vase. Earthy and unhurried. Warm in the hand.

Vintage pieces hold something that new things cannot replicate. A quiet history. A patina that took years to earn. The sense that this object has already had a life — and is ready to begin another one, on your windowsill, your kitchen shelf, your bedside table.

The best homes are filled with things like this. Objects that don't shout but somehow say everything. That feel chosen rather than ordered. That make a room feel settled and real.

The Country Store is full of them. Each visit turns up something different — a glaze, a shape, a piece that feels oddly familiar the moment you hold it.
We think that's one of the quiet pleasures of coming to Prince Albert. You arrive looking for rest. You leave with something unexpected. A slower pace in your chest. And maybe a beautiful old vase wrapped carefully in your bag.
Which piece would find a place in your home? We'd love to know.
