We are right in the heart of the village with all shops, restaurants and amenities within easy walking distance. Our accommodation is positioned around our beautiful tranquil garden and delightful swimming pool which is the central point of our pretty outdoor restaurant. Our rooms are spacious and graceful, our breakfasts are fantastic and the teagarden has a reputation for the finest of refreshments and the most delicious fresh lunches. The restful stay you expect is assured. We do not allow pets, our accommodation is for adults of 12 years and older and the pool is for the use of the residents only. Dinner and picnic hampers are a pleasure for us to provide albeit by prior arrangement as are bookings for tours, excursions and theatre. William and Colleen are committed to ensuring that your stay is as good as you expected it to be. When you step over the fresh water furrow, through our lovely interior, out to the sound of birdsong in the scented garden, your spirit will surely fly!

A secret garden in the heart of the Karoo.

Tucked behind our Victorian façade lies a quiet oasis, where flowering chives sway in the afternoon light and the bees go about their unhurried business. Here, hospitality and friendship converge.

Begin your morning with a leisurely breakfast at the Fig Leaf Café. Then wander out into the garden, linger a while, and let the day unfold at its own gentle pace. Should the Karoo sun call for it, the pool awaits, cool and utterly divine.

When you are ready, Prince Albert is right on the doorstep. Meander through its tree-lined streets, browse the galleries and antique shops, and return home to the garden at dusk.

Some places are simply meant to be savoured slowly. This is one of them.

We’re truly honoured that Fig Leaf Café has been Recommended on Restaurant Guru 2026.

This one belongs to our wonderful team, who put their heart and soul into every bake, every pot of coffee and every plate that leaves the kitchen. It also belongs to our local suppliers, whose good, natural ingredients make it all possible. Thank you.

If ever there were a single piece that captured the spirit of the Country Store, it might well be this one.

If ever there were a single piece that captured the spirit of the Country Store, it might well be this one.

A grand old woven hamper with worn leather straps and buckles, and a weave that has softened beautifully with age.

You may remember it from a few weeks ago, piled high with cushions. Today it’s brimming with white blossoms, feathery wild grasses and little yellow button plumes from the Karoo. That’s what we love about it: it takes on whatever you ask of it.

Use it as a coffee table on the veranda or a characterful centrepiece in the living room. It also makes handsome storage for throws, linen or firewood. It’s useful and beautiful in equal measure, and it’s ready for its next chapter.

And then, one by one, the bouquets were done.

There’s a particular kind of quiet that settles in when someone has made something with their own hands. Some women paused to admire their work, others turned to share the moment with a friend, and a few simply stood and took it all in, each holding a little piece of the garden she had gathered and shaped herself.

No two bouquets alike, and every one of them carrying something of the person who tied it. That, really, is the art of the hand-tied bouquet.

What a joy it was to watch them come together, and to send each one home in full bloom.

Flowers and conversations around a Karoo table

Some of our favourite moments from Open Gardens weren’t in the gardens at all. They were here, around one long table, with buckets of flowers, a lot of laughter and a room full of women making something beautiful together.

Colleen brought years of experience from working in a florist’s shop, and she shared it the way she does everything: lightly, generously, and with a great deal of joy. She talked colour and texture, showed where each stem wanted to sit, and somehow made it look easy.

And then everyone got stuck in. Sleeves rolled up, heads bent together, the scent of lavender and sage drifting through the store while the conversation flowed. Strangers became friends over a shared pair of secateurs. Every bouquet that left the table was a little different, and every one of them was lovely.

Thank you to everyone who came and filled the room with such warmth, and to Prince Albert Open Gardens for another glorious weekend.

The Art of the Hand-Tied Bouquet 🌿

What a weekend. Prince Albert Open Gardens was nothing short of glorious, and it was a joy to see the Country Store filled to the rafters with people, flowers and conversation.

Colleen hosted our hand-tied bouquet workshop, guiding everyone through the quiet art of gathering stems, balancing colour and texture, and tying it all together with that effortless, just-picked-from-an-English-garden charm. Lavender, salvia, soft greens and a little wildness: every bouquet was its own small masterpiece.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to Colleen for sharing her eye and her generous spirit. Proceeds supported the Wolvekraal Nature Reserve.

The Blooms Are Inside and Out

Colleen has left no stone unturned this spring. While the garden outside is in full colour, she has been carrying that same spirit indoors, hanging paintings of flowers and artwork in every room so that the blooms follow you from the garden right through to your bedside.

It is this attention to detail, and Colleen’s eye for colour and decor, that makes a stay here feel so considered. Every room has something beautiful to look at, whether it is the view through the window or the painting on the wall.

Our Open Garden runs this weekend until Sunday 27 September, and we would love for you to come and see it all, inside and out.

In the heart of Prince Albert, the old buildings wear the colour of the Karoo itself. Walls of soft, sun-warmed cream and corrugated iron weathered by more than a century of summers hold the history of this village in every ridge and gable. Around them, the garden has grown into something quite different, lush and green and full of colour, with climbing roses in apricot and coral tumbling over doorways and vines tracing the lines of the rooftops.

It is this meeting of old and living things that makes the garden feel like an oasis. There is no single view worth waiting for. Sit beside the corrugated iron cottage, among rustic tables and sculptural aloes, and the past feels very close. Drift to the pool, where whitewashed gables are framed in trailing green, and you will find yourself in a secret garden tucked away from the heat of the day. Wander a little further and an old plough rests in the undergrowth, slowly being gathered back into the garden around it.

Our Open Garden begins today and runs through to Sunday 27 September. We would be delighted to welcome you this weekend, so do come and find your favourite spot.

There’s no room that doesn’t deserve flowers.

Anyone who knows us, and has spent time at the store, will know that there is hardly a corner, table or guest room that goes without flowers.

A vase. A milk jug. An old jar. Whatever is at hand becomes an opportunity for a little colour and beauty.

It’s the art of the hand-tied bouquet, lovingly prepared by Colleen for our guests, and it brings so much joy into the everyday.
