Welcome to Edible Shores, a sanctuary where time slows down and nature's embrace is felt in every corner. Nestled within this haven is Mandalay Cottage, a labor of love and a testament to three years of dedication and passion. This is not just a place to stay; it's a place to reconnect, recharge, and reflect.
Built by my grandfather in 1968, Mandalay Cottage has been a cherished retreat for my family for generations. I grew up with the fondest memories of family gatherings, storytelling evenings, and games under the starlit sky, with no electricity to distract us from the beauty of nature. Today, I continue to honor those traditions while embracing the changes that come with time.
Mandalay Cottage may not boast the luxuries of a five-star resort, but it offers something far more valuable: authenticity and warmth. Every corner of this cottage tells a story of hard work, love, and a deep connection to the land. Here, you can experience the simple joys of life—warm sunny days spent swimming or bodyboarding at one of the world's most magical beaches, exploring rock pools, and frolicking in the waves. The beach, mountain walks, and local restaurants are all just a five-minute walk from the cottages.
After a day of adventure, rinse off in the hot outdoor shower and spend your evenings on the deck, braaing or gathering around the fire pit. As you savor your meal, take in the breathtaking ocean and mountain views that surround you. This is a place where you can truly feel blessed.
For those chilly winter days and nights, cozy up around the indoor fireplace with a great book from the cottage library. If you're feeling creative, easels are available upon request for painting, and there's a dollhouse for children to let their imaginations run wild.
Mandalay Cottage is designed for comfort and relaxation. The main bedroom features a queen bed and an en-suite bathroom, while the second bedroom, though small, is cozy with a double bed and its own separate bathroom. Imagine showering with a distant view of the ocean, a serene start to your day.
The open-plan lounge, dining, and kitchen area is perfect for gatherings, complete with a pool table, games, and a piano. The magical birdlife and the occasional sighting of little buck feeding on the fynbos add to the charm of this retreat.
