At some point on safari, you realise you haven’t checked the time in hours. Not because you forgot, exactly, but because the day has stopped asking to be measured that way.

There is freedom to linger over a cup of coffee. To move from one activity to the next without checking the clock. To read a few pages, follow the comings and goings of wildlife at the waterhole, or simply sit for a while enjoying the feeling of sun on your skin.

So much of modern life asks us to hurry, but out here, the invitation is different: Slow down. Stay a little longer. Notice what you might otherwise miss.
And when you finally have the time, what are you most looking forward to doing with it? (Nothing is a perfectly acceptable answer, too!)

Venture even further into Madikwe with The Royal Safari Experience.

For those wishing to surrender fully to the safari experience, this full-day excursion carries you further into the reserve than a traditional game drive would, exploring the Central and Western areas of Madikwe that are less frequently visited from the lodge.
Freed from the usual turnaround times, your guide has the space to slow down, linger longer and allow the day to unfold as it will. More time for unexpected sightings. More time to follow tracks. More time to stop for the smaller wonders often missed between destinations.

The experience includes a hearty breakfast at the Clubhouse before departure, a pop-up bush lunch with drinks, and a late-afternoon sundowner stop before returning to the lodge. A bush walk can also be incorporated on request ~ subject to conditions and group size.

As we eagerly await the return of summer rains, we’re reminded of all the remarkable ways Mother Nature already manages this precious resource. It has its own systems for capturing, filtering and returning water to the earth. Our role is simply to work with those systems, not against them.

That's why our lodge design was intentionally shaped around the land itself. During the summer rains, rainwater flowing from roofs, pathways, decks and other lodge surfaces is carefully guided towards the waterhole, allowing us to capture as much water as possible where wildlife can benefit from it. 

From there, any excess water continues along the land’s natural drainage lines towards the northern plains, where it gradually filters back into the ground and helps support the underground water systems that sustain this landscape.

A simple idea, really: let the land lead and work with what's already there.
