Coffee in hand on your private deck while the plains of Madikwe are still soft with first light. Out on drive, a pause in the open grassland while the coffee is poured. Back at the lodge, breakfast by the pool, with views that stretch to the horizon. The day hasn't asked anything of you yet.

Godfrey was here before the first guest arrived. In 2004, with the furniture still being carried in, he welcomed the very first team members from the village, and he has been part of Buffalo Ridge ever since.

Today he's our General Manager. For him the best part is simple: this is the community's own lodge, and he wants to see its name keep growing.

Not every leopard sighting needs a game drive. One quiet evening at Buffalo Ridge, one of Madikwe's most elusive cats came down to the lodge waterhole. It drank slowly, its reflection still on the water, then slipped back into the dark. Our guests watched it all from the lodge.
