BEFORE / AFTER | THE BIRD ROOM

Perched high on the third floor, among the treetops, The Bird Room takes its name from two charming details: a collection of vintage birdwatching cards discovered on its original walls, and a Juliet balcony that resembles a little birdcage suspended among the trees.

Before its transformation, the room was wrapped in floor-to-ceiling green, with matching painted furniture and cupboards, and worn chocolate-brown carpets.

Reimagining the space meant reconfiguring much of the top floor. Walls came down, the entrance was relocated, and the original bathroom was divided to create private en-suites. Removing the old built-in cupboards added valuable width, while bevelled subway tiles laid in a herringbone pattern brought a classic-modern finish to the new bathroom.

Today, The Bird Room is a bright, north-facing retreat, where double French doors open onto its treetop balcony, filling the room with sunshine and connecting it to the garden below.

A little closer to the birds, a lot closer to what we imagined.

Now one of La Casa Blanca's favourite guest rooms.

BEFORE / DURING / AFTER | THE MAP ROOM

Once a dated twin room with chocolate-brown carpets, purple-painted cupboards and no en-suite, The Map Room is now our largest and one of our most spacious, light-filled rooms.

We removed the old built-in cupboards, opening up the space, and installed a custom joinery combining a workstation, minibar, coffee station, drawers and wardrobe space. A large central bathroom was divided to create two private en-suites, with green herringbone subway tiles giving a subtle nod to the bathroom that came before.

The room found its identity when we discovered a collection of old maps stored in the attic during renovations. They became the inspiration for The Map Room.

Even the original hardwood cupboard drawers found a new life, repurposed into the new floating bedside tables.

High up in the trees, expansive views and filled with natural light: a completely new room, with a few pieces of its past kept to preserve the heritage of La Casa Blanca.

BEFORE / DURING / AFTER | THE BOTANIST ROOM

Some transformations completely redefine a space.

Before La Casa Blanca became a guesthouse, The Botanist Room was a dated sewing and hobby room, painted entirely in pink. Alongside it was a separate dark chocolate-brown bathroom, with a ceiling so low that standing upright was almost a challenge.

During the renovation, we completely reimagined the layout.

The separate spaces were opened up to create a single, generous open-plan bedroom and en-suite bathroom. We added an additional exterior window to bring in more natural light and raised the ceilings as high as the original structure would allow, dramatically changing the proportions of the room.

But we kept one little nod to its past: the original pink room inspired the classic pink bevelled subway tiles that now line the walk-in shower.

The result is a room that feels larger, lighter and completely transformed. Higher ceilings and additional natural light give the space an openness that simply didn't exist before.

What was once a collection of dated, disconnected spaces is now a beautiful, feminine and light-filled guest room, and one of La Casa Blanca's biggest transformations.

New Series: The Befores, Durings and Afters.

BEFORE / AFTER | THE TRAVELLERS ROOM

Some transformations completely redefine a space.

Before La Casa Blanca became a guesthouse, The Travellers Room was a dated secretary’s office - small, enclosed and disconnected from the garden just beyond its walls.

During the renovation, we broke through the exterior wall and extended the room by more than a metre onto the existing patio. That single architectural change transformed everything.

The room became larger, lighter and far more connected to its surroundings, with natural light pouring in and direct access to the patio and lush garden beyond.

What was once an office is now a quiet, light-filled guest room and one of La Casa Blanca’s biggest transformations.

After a few weeks of renovations, we’ve finally completed the updates to The Travellers Room at La Casa Blanca.

We’ve increased the size of the room, refreshed the interiors and completely updated the bathroom, including a modern hexagon feature wall and a spacious walk-in shower.

The Travellers Room is now a Luxury Patio Room, with direct access to the ground-floor patio and beautiful garden views.

More space, a fresh new look and a quiet retreat overlooking the garden.

We’re very happy with how it turned out and can’t wait to welcome our first guests into the newly updated space.
