This little room is finally finished! It had the weirdest layout, with two doors and a bathroom with two showers. Crazy, right?

We went a bit bold with colour choice in here. This wallpaper had been in a box for over 5 years and I finally found the perfect spot for it.

I think it is the ideal room for a single budget conscious traveller who wants a comfy bed, huge shower, Aircon and some cheerful decor!

The first guest to sleep in the new room checks in on Wednesday!

Phew.... It was a long slog with this room, but it is now finished and ready for guests!

We hope our guests staying in this room will love it as much as we do!

I'm not sure what to be more excited about - the new bathroom, the Aircon that blows ice cold, the beautiful parquet or just the whole restful look and feel.

Finally!!! We are so chuffed to say that all of our en-suite rooms have brand new inverter aircons.

In December 2019, we had guests who said they had to sleep with damp towels over them because our upstairs rooms were so hot.

Those rooms now feel like fridges!!

And because our municipality is literally falling apart at the seams with quite regular power outages, we needed an alternative energy source, so a massive solar installation has gone in too, with back up water tanks as well.

Now for the clean-up after all the drilling through old clay brick walls, and we are ready to officially open our doors!

Room 10 finally complete!

I was dreading wallpapering... Kept putting it off until today when I mixed up the bucket of wallpaper paste and had no option but to finish three rooms.

This room has many memories. It was our bedroom when we were still living in the hotel, with our guests upstairs. It had hideous glue down office carpets, big chunks of plaster falling off the walls, one plug for the entire room, and a hideous green bathroom from the 1980s.

It now boasts reclaimed parquet floors, brand new shower bathroom and repurposed panelling from the big lounge - it turned out quite nicely.

And the best of all... Air-conditioning!!!

We'll be open for bookings very soon!

No ceiling, big piles of bird poo, horrible floor and a bathroom that looked like a jail cell....

We kept the door to this room locked when the hotel was still operating in its previous iteration. It was embarrassing, and we just didn't have the budget to fix it.

The transformation has been nothing short of spectacular. Nothing fancy, but it is still a comfortable, squeaky clean room, and yes... that is a Karoo Creations wool duvet on the bed!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! We love serving it with a bit of pizzazz in our beautiful dining room, even if it was still dark when our lovely guests were seated...

When "let's just fix a few leaks" turns into replacing almost an entire roof!

BEFORE & AFTER

135 square metres of yellow knotty pine greeted us in the big guest lounge when we moved into the hotel on 1 March 2019. Using what limited budget we had back then, we smacked a coat of paint on the floor and the walls and decorated it as best we could.

After the lockdowns, it turned into our duvet factory's quilting room and housed industrial quilting machines, sewing machines and lots of energy from our team.

The second photo shows what our lounge looks like today in its final iteration.

We think the two year renovation has been worth it!

Richmond's first snow of 2026!

We awoke to beautiful snow covering our garden. It is still snowing... Big fat flakes falling from the sky. Our garden looks very different to a few months ago.

Winter has arrived!!! Thankfully we have our Karoo Creations • Bespoke Wool Products wool duvets in all our guest rooms.
