This is truly a home from home backpackers with free internet and wi-fi. RECEPTION IS OPEN FROM 11AM - 8PM. Cancellation Policy
This property has a 1 day cancellation policy. Failure to cancel within this time will result in a cancellation charge equal to the first night of your stay. Owner-run with 20 beds in en-suite dorms, doubles, twins and undercover camping. Billy Bongo is cosy and relaxing, period. Head for the hills and spend a day fly fishing, hike, picnic at a waterfall and hunt forest mushrooms, and arrive home for sunset and a bonfire roaring at night. Drums, pool table, guitars, table soccer or simply mushroom out in front of a DVD. Internet, email and laundry available. Pickups and collections from airports also available. Great accommodation at a fraction of the price. Fancy getting lost in the forest? We can organise that too! :)

Recently reopened after a two-year absence, Billy Bongo Backpackers fills the gap left by the closure of another backpackers, but is so much more than just a gap-filler.

The Location

The hostel is located on Old Lydenburg Road, about two kilometers northwest of central Sabie. Billy Bongo sits on the road to three waterfalls -- The Bridal Veil, The Horse Shoe, and Lone Creek Falls.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are a couple of double rooms, a family room, and a six-bed dorm. The dorm has four bunks and two single beds. The bathroom has its own toilet and solar-powered hot-water shower. The small kitchenette includes a kettle, toaster, microwave, and fridge. There is also a TV in the room, so it doubles as a group or family room, with plenty of space. The beds have duvets and good mattresses, and there are two desks for unpacking. It's a little dark as two windows have been boarded up. It's all very clean, as everything is almost new. The rooms share a common toilet and shower that are kept as clean as the rest of the house.

Common Spaces

In the house, there is a large kitchen for self-catering. There are no meals here, so the kitchen is very well equipped with a kettle, microwave, fridge, and an induction cooker. There is free tea and coffee all day. There is a pool table by the kitchen and a cozy sitting room with large couches, bean bags, and a TV. The walls are decorated with maps, posters, and laminated flyers from other hostels around the region, and there's a small library. A small, wooden sitting area with table football has been added in the back garden, which will become a bar. The owner is making the whole place off-grid; all power will come from the sun and other green sources. There is a tiny bathing pool in the back garden by the bar. Free Wi-Fi is provided.

Summary

Everything here is brand new, and this place is clean, comfortable, and run by an excellent owner. The owner is both friendly and informative, with many years' experience running the hostel. It's in a secure, gated compound and there is CCTV by the gate. This is a great place to stay, and it promises to get even better, as finishing touches are still being provided by the owner.
