My Eastern Cape Journey: A Circle of Grace

Sixty years ago, I began my first year of school in East London at Grens Laerskool. Little did I know then the journey God had in store for me. I recently discovered that Grens Laerskool has since moved and become Ooskus Primary, while the original building is now Inner City Primary. On our recent mission in East London, I had the privilege to visit these schools again—places I hadn’t seen since I was a little girl. It was as if a beautiful circle had been completed.

When I first walked those halls, I didn’t know God. Life led me down many roads, and at times, I wandered far from Him. But by His grace, He brought me back, restored and renewed. Now, returning as a missionary to the place where my life began, I am overwhelmed by how God has written this story. His love has brought me from a past of brokenness to a life of purpose, calling me to share His message with others.

To anyone feeling lost or separated from God, remember that He is always there, ready to welcome you with open arms. I’m living proof of His grace and His ability to turn even the most unlikely journeys into a testimony of love and restoration.

I am reaching out for the harvest! I am fired up to run for Jesus in Nigeria! Please pray for Cfan and everybody who are laying down their lives for Jesus on the front line of evangelism! The ABA Invasion Nigeria will take place in February and I will join 100 other evangelist in this big event that will be run by Christ for all Nations. Joyful in the harvest!

Dis die jaar 2024. Ek weet dit gaan GROOT wees in alle opsigte. My fokus is op Jesus se wederkoms, want ek glo die tyd raak min! Daar is 'n groot oes wat ingehaal moet word en die arbeiders is min.
Any day NOW! Dis tyd om te hardloop vir Jesus en ek vra Here Jesus waarheen wil U my stuur? En ek word geroep vir Nigerië! Die pad na my destinasie was stryd, want die vyand wil dit nie hê nie, maar ek het die laaste 10 dae deurgedruk om my visum en vlugte te reël met die Here wat voor my uitgegaan het! Daar is 'n opgewondenheid in my hart vir dit wat voorlê as ek op 18 Februarie die vliegtuig bestyg! Ek is alleen op my reis en sal eers in Aba by die res van CFan se span aansluit. Ek vra al my vriende in Christus om asseblief vir my te bid vir beskerming, maar meer as dit, dat die VUUR van die Heilige Gees hoog in my hart en in my mond sal brand wanneer ons die stad ABA evangeliseer. I like to share this truth about Christmas.

Each December, something astonishing happens throughout the secularized West: the specter of Christendom arises to haunt us like a festive apparition in a Dickens novel.

In other words, the long-buried memories of our once-Christianized culture suddenly flash across our collective conscience. Nonbelievers find themselves singing along with songs about peace on earth and the reign of God’s Son. Pagans exchange gifts in honor of a heavenly Gift they have yet to acknowledge. Businesses and establishments of all sorts shut their doors in recognition not merely of a civic celebration but of an actual holy day.

The problem is that our critiques of cultural Christianity do not go very far, and their result is that we fail to appreciate the Lord’s millennia-long labors in tilling the stony soil of nations and cultures to receive gospel seed.

The truth is that a society with some memory of God’s big story—the story he began to write in lowly Israel in ages past and for 2,000 years has been publishing among all the nations—is a society that is in some way prepared to receive the saving good news. When there are no foundations, what are the righteous to do (Psalm 11:3)? But when a foundational fear of God exists in a culture, the groundwork is laid for the gospel to find a hearing and make sense to the lost—even to those who consider themselves almost-Christian.

Christmas is not only a time to celebrate Christ’s birth but to call the nations to remember. Faithful men and women, after all, were spreading the news of Christ long before what we today call the modern missions movement. Christmas is a time for unbelievers to grapple with the inescapable reality that our King and theirs has come, and he rules already without their permission. And faithful evangelism can force our friends and neighbors to reckon with this reality.

As you remember the incarnation of our Lord this coming week, remember that Christmas is the hinge of history. Christ rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations—yes, all the nations—prove the glories of his righteousness and wonders of his love. Lean into this story, and as the ghost of our culture’s Christian past begins to make its annual appearances, don’t let it evangelistically catch you off guard.

My liefste moedertjie Daphne Louw is op die ouderdom van 91 op 25 Junie 2023, Sondagoggend, vroeg weggedra deur die engele na die boesem van Jesus, sonder pyn, so rein en skoon en vlekkeloos in liggaam, siel en gees!
Om die pad saam met haar te kon stap vir amper 66 jaar tot op die einde is seker die grootste geskenk wat enige kind voor kon vra. Sy het met n sagte moederhart elkeen van haar 6 kinders groot gemaak en elkeen van ons altyd gekoester en in liefde omhul deur al ons lewensstorms en kon elke mypaal saam met ons vier. Toe sy klein en swak raak, het ons haar versorg en vertroetel in die huis - nooit is sy alleen gelaat - nooit was enige moeite gespaar! Ek is my twee susters, Helen Christien Heyns en Lisa Crouse, ontsettend dankbaar vir hul liefde en dat ons saam hierdie pad kon stap om so ons moeder te vereer.
Dis n reuse boek wat toegemaak is hier op aarde, maar een wat oopgeslaan het in die hemel! Daphne Louw, jy dra n kroon en n nuwe ring aan jou vinger, n kleed van geregtigheid!
Dankie my Hemelse Vader vir die ongekende maat van genade wat ek hierin ontvang het! My lewe is so ryk aan n erfenis wat vir geslagte nog gesien gaan word - sy laat 15 kleinkinders en 12 agterkleinkinders agter, ‘and still counting’!
Mamma was n boom geplant langs waterstrome, sy was n Debora, n moeder duisend, ‘n profetes, n regter en die een sonder wie ons nie oorlog toe sou gaan nie - haar wyse raad sal altyd by ons bly! Ek salueer my Spreuke 31 - Mamma Daphne!
