We are looking for a dynamic person to join our small team as Building Assistant.
Location: Wynberg, Sandton
Reports To: Facility Manager & Owner
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Role
We are seeking a reliable, hands-on building assistant to help maintain the smooth day-to-day operation of our shared commercial kitchen facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the building, common areas, and kitchen spaces remain clean, safe, functional, and compliant with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance
• Conduct daily inspections of kitchens, storage areas, common spaces, and external areas.
• Ensure the facility is clean, tidy, and presentable at all times.
• Clean, sanitize, and restock all bathrooms daily, ensuring they remain hygienic, fully supplied, and presentable throughout operating hours.
• Empty bins and remove waste from common areas and bathrooms on a daily basis.
• Identify and report maintenance issues, damage, or safety hazards.
• Monitor building systems and report any concerns promptly.
• Monitor adherence to facility rules and health and safety requirements.
• Assist with emergency procedures and incident reporting.
• Ensure walkways, exits, and common areas remain unobstructed and safe.
Inventory & Supplies
• Monitor stock levels of cleaning supplies, consumables, and facility equipment and report low levels to Management in a timely manner.
• Assist with receiving deliveries and organizing storage areas.
Requirements
• Previous experience in facilities maintenance.
• Basic maintenance and handyman skills ie electrical and plumbing
• Good understanding of cleaning and hygiene standards.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Physically fit and capable of lifting, carrying, and performing manual tasks.
• Reliable, punctual.
