When visiting Sedgefield, a small Garden Route village, you will immediately feel a shift in pace. Here the rhythm of life marches to a delightfully different, unhurried beat.

This quaint coastal village joins the ranks of other like-minded, relaxed towns around the globe who have taken a pledge to follow guiding principles of this the slow town movement.

Cittaslow, founded in 1999 in a bid to steer away from the frenetic pace and the homogenous inflictions of modern living, forms part of a global trend known today as the ‘slow movement’. All Cittaslow accredited town are guided by a set of governing principles. Slow living explores the philosophy of getting back to basics, slowing down, reconnecting and re-engaging in life’s simple pleasures.

Are you an adventure addict looking for a place that will satisfy your quest for that pure flood of adrenaline, surrounded by raw natural beauty?

Look no further than the Garden Route Trail Park (GRTP) that lies at the base of the Outeniqua Mountain range near the Karatara River gorge. This park hums with activity, luring not only avid Mountain Bike (MTB) enthusiasts and trail runners, but also families looking for a healthy outdoor pursuit over the weekend and holidays.

The GRTP’s vision to build the ultimate trail ride experience, across some of the best mountain biking terrain in the country has become reality. This can now be experienced in their series of fast and fluid trails characterised mostly by single and jeep tracks leading through scenery synonymous with the Garden Route: rivers, mountains, forest and fynbos. The routes are created to cater for a range of skills and fitness levels: the 10.1km Forest Frenzy Route, the 13.6km Crazy Creek Route, the 16.4km Jungle Fever Route and the 24.5km Full Loop Route. These trails link directly to the SANParks Farleigh MTB routes.

For trail runners there is a flowing forest trail that takes runners along the banks of the upper reaches of the Karatara River, with waterfalls and massive rock pools.
At the picnic area you can chill while you watching the older and younger children tackle the Pumptrack. The outer loop has been designed as a BMX track for those who want to test their ‘n “airborne” talent, or those who just wants to ride it gently.
