Simon's Town has been buzzing with Naval activity these last two weeks in preparation for the Change of Command Parade taking place today. Note that the Main Road will be closed from 10am - 3pm. Cars will be diverted onto Runciman Drive, coming past Mariner Guesthouse.

What a pleasure hosting this Birding Ecotours group from America this past week. This group was supposed to visit in 2020 and had to postpone twice due to travel restrictions. We were so happy to finally welcome them to our beautiful Simon's Town!

These photos are from a "potjie evening" at Mariner Guesthouse & Villa . We served "snoek & patat", chicken wings on the "braai" and koeksisters for a South African cuisine experience.

“I visited Simon's Town again in May, after many years, even though I live only about 30km away. There are just so many options available of beautiful places to visit in this part of the world. Simon's Town captured my heart, as this small town has so many facets, and offers such a variety to visitors and tourists. From the harbour area to the beaches with the big boulders and rocks, make for wonderful photo opportunities. Add a sunset to it and you are in for the win. “

We had a very busy week at Mariner Guesthouse in Simon's Town hosting a group of American visitors from Birding Ecotours. They caught a few rainy days, but made the most of their time in the Cape Peninsula Cape Town, including hiking at Cape Point, a visit to Boulders Beach Penguin Colony and dinner at Saveur Restaurant Simonstown and Harbour House Restaurant, Kalk Bay .

Fancy an early morning stroll on the beach? Simon's Town Long Beach was calm and peaceful this morning.

Our coffee is roasted by Blue Door Coffee Roasters down the road from us in Simon's Town. Nothing beats the aroma of freshly roasted & ground coffee!

Our wish for 2018 is for lots and lots of #rain to fill our dams again! Unfortunately, until that happens, Cape Town and surrounding areas are in the midst of a serious #drought. In line with our #eco-friendly policies and #responsible #tourism, we support the city's #water #saving initiatives: We installed water harvesting tanks for back-up fresh water. We've removed bath plugs from all our bathrooms and encourage our guests to rather take a short shower. We have placed buckets in the showers and use this and the grey water from our washing mashine to water our #waterwise garden. All of this is communicated with our guests when they check in, through signs in our bathrooms and room info files, as well as here on Facebook and on our web site. Thank you to all our guests for your understanding and support. We trust you will still enjoy your stay with us in Simon's Town!

OUR STORY

The name “Mariner” comes from the rich maritime history of Simon’s Town. Looking down from your balcony while staying at Mariner Guesthouse, you’ll see the yachts at False Bay Yacht Club, some kayaks or SUP’s going out, boats going fishing, snorkeling, whale watching or shark cage diving. Simon’s Town is also home to the South African Navy, so sometimes, you’ll even see a submarine or frigate quietly coming in or out of the harbour.

In choosing this plot to build, it was important to the owners that the guest house had to be centrally located and walking distance to restaurants and beaches, while still offering panoramic sea views across False Bay. Today, the owners of Mariner Guesthouse are proud of what the business has become. Its involvement in various Social Responsibility projects, a focus on Staff Development and having received awards such as Top Accommodation in the South Peninsula by Travel Ground and a Certificate of Excellence and Winner on Trip Advisor – as rated by its satisfied guests, are all aspects that contribute to the success of the business.
