The Lookout in Simon's Town, (previously known as the The Flagship) is a beautiful, contemporary guesthouse situated a few paces from the False Bay shoreline, offering uninterrupted views of the ocean and the Hottentot Mountains. Your hosts, Colin and Claire Teifel look forward to welcoming you to stay in one of their four, immaculately appointed, guest suites which overlook the sparkling pool and

the sea. Situated just outside historic Simon’s Town, we are a short stroll away from the penguins on Boulder’s Beach, a matter of minutes by car from the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and the world famous Cape Point and under an hour from the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town and the Winelands beyond.

In two weeks, we will close the doors on The Lookout after an amazing 7 years living in our beautiful home and hosting so many wonderful guests, from all over the world.
Colin and I thoroughly enjoyed running the guest house, but after the initial Covid lockdowns and the resultant lack of tourists caused us to temporarily close, we came to the realisation that we were not making the most of living in this amazing area. With the relocation of our daughter to the UK in May 2022 we decided to downsize and buy a smaller slice of heaven on this peninsula. Nothing can compare with the stunning, panoramic views of The Lookout, but we will always treasure the memories.
A sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to making our life here so special!
Here’s to the next chapter……..

First we had the Bafta and Oscar winning "My Octopus Teacher" filmed right here in Simon's Town and now "Penguin Town" featuring these wonderful creatures is about to be aired on Netflix. It's clearly worth visiting this beautiful part of the world.

Netflix is releasing a docuseries about South Africa's Simon's Town local penguins, called 'Penguin Town' and here's everything we know thus far.

Over the last couple of years we have hosted members of Craig Foster's "My Octopus Teacher" production team at The Lookout. Craig lives in our suburb and we were so delighted to accommodate his colleagues, while they worked on the documentary, particularly as they all truly appreciated the natural beauty of our shoreline. We have just watched the Netflix "premier" this evening of his documentary about his amazing relationship with a female octopus who lived in the kelp forest metres away from the shoreline in front of us. To say that we were blown away is an understatement. We cannot recommend this documentary to our friends and former guests enough; it is sensational and worthy of the highest accolades. Huge congratulations to Craig, Pippa, James and Ellen on this beautiful love story.

Yesterday I was privileged to be included in a complimentary Whale Watching trip with Dave Hurwitz of the Simon's Town Boat Company offered to members of our Whale Sightings WhatsApp group. We went out to Cape Point spotting a Sun fish and several seals before heading back to Simon's Town where we saw a couple of Bryde's Whales which came very close to the boat and at one point one swam under the boat. Colin took these photos from our balcony as we passed The Lookout on our way to Cape Point. I'm on the top deck near the front wearing a blue jacket. Needless to say my lack of photography skills meant that none of the many photos I took during the trip were worth posting!!
Many thanks to Dave and his team and Odette for organising this wonderful excursion!

We have just been privy to the most spectacular gymnastic display by a passing whale. There are a very few benefits of Lockdown but this is certainly one of them!

Thanks again to Simon's Town Boat Company who spotted and photographed these magnificent Orcas en route from Glencairn to Buffels Bay, near Cape Point. This time we were lucky enough to see them as they passed The Lookout, close to shore!

Many thanks to our very own Simon's Town Boat Company for sharing these amazing photos taken in False Bay yesterday.

Many thanks to our very own Simon's Town Boat Company for sharing these amazing photos taken in False Bay yesterday.

On Sunday 26 April David Hurwitz from the Simon's Town Boat Company reported a sighting of an orca pod in False Bay. There were between 6-7 animals.

To all our lovely former guests and in so many cases, friends, we wish you well during these trying times. We said farewell to our final guest last week on Friday and immediately put Regina and Charles on very part-time work on full pay, for their safety and that of ours. The news came in on Monday that a 21 day lock down would begin on Thursday at midnight. We said a tearful goodbye to Regina and Charles and hope and pray that we will all be together again, safe and healthy on 17th April. It is our daughter, Francesca's 23rd birthday today, which we celebrated together in a very low-key manner, with some bubbles and her favourite carrot cake. The ultimate birthday present for her however, was when this pod of dolphins swam past about half an hour ago, to wish her a happy birthday. Please stay safe and healthy, and emerge from this crisis inspired and with renewed vigour to look after our beautiful planet and all who inhabit it. Stay strong.
