Great news from the bush! Our Logistics & Support Manager, Andrew Jackson, gives an update on progress as we prepare to welcome guests back to Satara Plains Camp on 1 July 2026.

After an exceptionally wet season, the team has carefully been working behind the scenes to bring our vanishing camp back to life.

What lies ahead: incredible game viewing in one of the most predator-rich areas of the park, with the bush currently bursting with life. Our team is ready to deliver those special moments you won’t find anywhere else.

THE ODD COUPLE... Finding two lionesses in a tree is not an everyday thing at Kruger Untamed! Unlike their feline cousin the leopard, lions are not natural climbers and lack the agility of their spotted kin, being somewhat clumsy at ill at ease in treetops, thanks largely to their weight. But they are given to defying the odds on occasion, scaling tree trunks to escape annoying biting insects and find respite from the heat of midday and, lucky for our recent guests, this is exactly what they did in this instance, creating a great photo op in the process!

Walking with Tshokwane River Camp manager Schalk Pretorius is an experience never to be forgotten. He's the kind of guide that other guides aspire to become... A seasoned naturalist, trainer, mentor and field guide with an unwavering passion for geology, conservation, ecology and the intricate interdependence of natural systems, he has spent his career deepening his own understanding of the natural world while empowering others to find their place within it.

His philosophy is a holistic one, rooted in the conviction that truly understanding nature requires understanding the essential role that humans play in protecting and sustaining it.

A SEA OF GRASS... And the Kruger's iconic wildlife species are like ships adrift upon it! The open grasslands that surround Tshokwane River Camp are filled with life during the dry season, with golden fronds swaying softly in the winter breeze, lit by low, filtered sunlight. WINTER IS HERE! It's the shift that seasoned Kruger visitors plan their whole year around.
