IMPORTANT SATARA PLAINS CAMP NEWS

The 2026 season is open and Tshokwane River Camp is alive with everything the Kruger does best. But we owe you an honest update about Satara Plains Camp.

This year's exceptional rains, beginning with January's devastating floods and continuing through unusually heavy late-season rainfall, have left the Satara site waterlogged and inaccessible. The ground isn't ready, and at Kruger Untamed, that means we wait. Driving heavy vehicles across saturated soil and forcing infrastructure onto land that's still recovering isn't something we're willing to do. The leave-no-trace philosophy isn't just for the end of the season. It applies now, too.

In this video, Andrew Jackson, our Logistics & Support Manager, shares the latest on-ground conditions and the careful steps we’re taking.

We'll share updates here as conditions change, and when the land is ready, we'll be there.

The plains will dry and the camp will rise once more. Watch this space...

WILD WALKING... There is a version of the Kruger that you simply cannot access from a vehicle, and it belongs entirely to those willing to step out into it on foot. A walking safari changes the scale of everything... The bush that appears open and legible from a game viewer becomes intricate, layered and immediate the moment you're standing in it, reading the wind, placing your feet with intention, and moving through the wilderness the way it was always meant to be experienced.

Tshokwane River Camp offers guided walking safaris throughout the season. If you haven't walked the Kruger yet, this is where to start.

THE BEST PRESENT FOR MOM... This Sunday, 10 May, is Mother's Day, and if you're still looking for a way to honour the woman who deserves more than flowers and a card, a Kruger Untamed safari is the most extraordinary gift you can give her.

A stay with Kruger Untamed offers something no shop can provide: the space to breathe, to step away from the noise of everyday life, and to experience the Kruger at its most alive and most extraordinary. Whether she's dreaming of her first safari or longing to return to the bush she loves, a Kruger Untamed gift voucher gives her a moment in time she'll carry long after the season has passed.

This Mother's Day, give her the wild.

INCREDIBLE SIGHTINGS... The Kruger rarely disappoints, but there are weeks when it surpasses itself entirely, when the sightings arrive one after another with a frequency and quality that leaves guests struggling to process what they've just witnessed.

We get weeks like this at Tshokwane River Camp, full of special moments and experiences that have been captured on camera and speak for themselves louder than we ever could. Needless to say, the bush is performing, and we're waiting to welcome you if you want to be part of it!

FULL OF VIBE... Satara Plains Camp has a personality all of its own, and it doesn't take long to feel it. Spread across open savanna with 30 tents and an easy, welcoming energy, it's the kind of place that brings people together naturally. Everyone finds their rhythm here, from families and groups to couples and solo travellers, and by the second evening around the fire, strangers have invariably become fellow adventurers with shared stories to tell.

With its wide, predator-rich plains, hearty meals and days shaped entirely by the guest make for a full-blooded Kruger safari that stays with you long after the dust has settled.

For many guests, this is where a lifelong love of the Kruger begins.

THE RICHES OF TSHOKWANE... The area around Tshokwane River Camp is widely regarded as one of the most wildlife-rich corridors in the entire Kruger National Park, and the guests who stay here come to understand very quickly why that reputation holds.

Elephant, giraffe, buffalo, lion... The full, extraordinary cast of this landscape moving through it on their own terms, in their own time, with the camp sitting quietly at the centre of it all. Tshokwane River Camp was deliberately placed here for exactly this reason, and the wildlife encounters it delivers, morning after morning and season after season, are the kind that redefine what a safari can be.
If you're looking for a base from which to experience the Kruger at its most alive, you've found it.
