We've seen quite a few of these Garden acraea butterflies. The reason could be that their host plant for caterpillars is the wild peach, and we have a few of those in our garden! We've seen the butterflies on the spekboom hedge, now we need to look out for the caterpillars on the wild peach.

Happy Spring Day! The weather promises to be beautiful, and the flowers and blossoms are out in full swing. The fig tree has a decided green tinge to it already, our Black Collared Barbets are going to be thrilled! Don't think it's quite time to pack the electric blankets away though, as winter always has it's last hoorah the third week in September.

We've had a couple of busy weeks, and the first thing our regulars look for when they get to the room is the complimentary rusks; not the coffee and tea, just the rusks. So, Sina is at it again. Next time she'll be able to do it completely unsupervised...if I can let the reigns go!

We've been at it again! Lunch packs, fishing lunches, Fly Fishing Festivals; the jaffle is a firm favourite. I just love coming up with different flavours to add in, this time there was a coriander and jalapenos salsa with chicken mayonaise. That surprise when you bite into chicken mayo, and there is something else there too!

One of Alan's brothers gave us a couple of Bulbinella plants, and we planted them in the stone wall next to the guesthouse. They are thriving, obviously enjoying the afternoon sun.

Bulbinella is an amazing plant. The sap in the leaves sooths skin irritations, including minor burns and sunburn, and it can also promote healing of small cuts, or insect bites.

So, if you're visiting and need something for your skin, just let us know, and we'll try to help provide some relief.

These Black collared barbets of ours are really enjoying the apples. Note to all, it doesn't matter if you give them a slightly bruised apple from Spar, or a perfect apple from Woolworths, they eat both with the same gusto. Just shows, you don't need to be perfect 😁

The advert by Seeff Properties of our guesthouse for sale, has raised quite a bit of interest. We are stopped in the street almost every day, and asked: Where are you moving to?

Well, who would want to move? We’ve built up the most amazing flyfishing destination over the last 20 years, so who would want to move away? Alan and I have decided that we need to focus on the fly fishing, guiding and wildlife tours. It’s time for some perhaps younger, perhaps with oodles of enthusiasm, to take over the Angler and Antelope Guesthouse, and grow a successful accommodation offering into so much more.

We’re looking forward to focusing on the next chapter with Wild Fly Fishing in the Karoo and A & A Adventures in South Africa, but in the meantime, we’re still fully committed to giving you the experience you’ve come to expect from the Angler and Antelope.
