After a good night's sleep on what was to be our last night inside a living museum, we indeed slept late - Mystie enjoyed our presence as much as we enjoyed her historical walls around us, so it was all good between our world and hers.

We took one last walk through the cottage, and one last walk to the edge of the forest where we managed to salvage a sliver of wood from the 200 year old discarded church pews - purely to fulfill my eccentricities and to add to my historical cabinet back home.

Back at the main house, we enjoyed the delicous speciality home baked - just out of the oven - scones, lovingly made from the heart. We snapped a few more memories to take home with us and before we knew it, we were headed back to Cape Town, with the hope that our hearts had managed to pilfer abit of the essence of the ethereal world we had just left behind.

To our dear friends Alex and Tracy. Thank you for a most magical time spent together celebrating Tracy's birthday. You guys are over and beyond excellent hosts, and I love how you are both living your dream. Long live your seasonal coffee shop, it is going to be the sunniest and most welcoming meeting place for all who venture beyond her threshold.

Lots of love and brightest blessings always.

What to expect from a little town in the middle of nowhere.

No! There are no malls, petrol stations, fast food outlets, cinema's, night clubs, high schools, sirens, emergency services, traffic lights, street lights and tar roads.

What you do find in this small town.
A traffic jam is cows or sheep on gravel roads, kids playing in the streets because its still safe to do so, some dogs walking free in the streets while others are chained up, self made entertainment where people gather, light a fire, talk and occasionally listen to loud music. There are no big shops , it's mostly a farming community which means they work hard in the extreme heat and freezing cold and as hard as they work they play hard too. Unlimited fresh air, magnificent birds, wildlife, ( buck, foxes, owls, rabbits and hares, rooikat, porcupines, feral cats ) and so much more ( snakes, ticks) , mountain trails which for safety reasons you do require a permit, small weekend markets, and a coffee shop and pub restaurant only open on weekends and holidays.

To cut a long story shorter, Tesselaarsdal is a small historical , forgotten town. The community carry the history and although there no museums and the old farm houses and cottages are still lived in, there remains all the remnants of a past life before chaos became the norm. Sometimes it's so quiet that you think you the only living person and other times there is a hive of activity and loud music and car ho***rs as form of greetings. Sometimes there is electricity and ample water and sometimes you just need to light a fire, braai , lay down low and feel the heartbeat of the earth while gazing at the star filled sky.

So yes, Tesselaarsdal is a town occupied by a diverse and wonderful community. It's as predictable as it's unpredictable, quiet and tranquil and the next minute alive and lived in.
I can't keep neighbour's quiet and stop dogs barking, I can't pump up the jam and create excitement when things are quiet, I cant promise the power wont go out or that there will always be cell and internet connection. What I can do is supply an outlet so you can experience small town living, breath fresh air, unwind, see the stars, see the sun rise and set in an aura filled, clean, very magical home.

There is no time in Tesselaarsdal, everything just happens when it happens.
It is what it is and it is amazing!

Just had a last minute cancelation for this Easter weekend. Anyone still wanting to get away for the long weekend at a discounted rate of R1000 per night for a minimum of 3 nights , should take advantage.
The weather on Friday is perfect for an outing to the hot springs in Caledon. Nothing better than a little rain to cool things down. There is a possibility of it being cold enough in the evening to snuggle up in front of the fire place. Saturday and Sunday are rain free and warm for braaing and relaxing by the pool
Tesselaarsdal community have an Easter market organized for Saturday and the town should be alive with music. Please whatsapp for bookings.

So summer is here and the great old oak has woken up bigger, stronger and more majestic than ever. It even sowed a few more magical offspring.

I was really sad to see my friend leave for England but while she rented the house we managed to add many more memories and magic to the aura of this home. I just love the way that those thick , strong ,old walls seem to absorb happiness and love, it is the most intriguing atmosphere.

For anyone who enjoys a weekend of music, beer tents, food and markets, the tessfees is happening on the property below the guest house on the 9th and 10th of December. It's notorious for being an epic party so I wouldn't dare offer the house to anyone wanting a quiet weekend, should you like that kind of vibe, that weekend will be one that you won't forget and that weekend is still available.

I'm so excited, Seven Mystical Oaks finally has its coffee shop. Not only is there now a coffee shop but also a little Saturday market on the property next door. Another mission accomplished, I can't wait to pick up my approved permit tomorrow.

Eventually we have completed the second bathroom. It was completely nerve racking making holes in the walls but I should have known that this magical home wouldn't have let me down. It's amazing seeing that room unlocked and looking so pretty I'm feeling a little lost knowing that everything is done and that until September she is all booked up. New venture is the coffee shop next door. I will keep everyone post.

Winter is definitely setting in , everything is going green again, piles of firewood are being stacked high, the great old oak tree is dropping its beautiful autumn leaves creating loads of fun for those who enjoy getting lost in magical piles of leaves. We expecting a bitterly cold winter this year, nothing this cottage can't handle though.

My mystical little cottage is booked up until September and before the mid May we will have completed the second bathroom.
We have been seriously procrastinating here as drilling through this grand old ladies walls has been a challenge to the mind. Well, she didn't let us down and the room that has been closed up for a year is very close to becoming a beautiful second bathroom.
Pictures will follow shortly.
To all the guests who have visited over the past year, we thank you for your support and hope that you created memories that will live as long as this home has stood. We thank those who have made and left an overflow of love behind.
Inbedded in these walls is a history of happiness and magic. It's a place to refresh the soul and now hopefully with the addition of a bath filled with bubbles, candle light and wine an entire new vibe can be added to the aura of this house.
