What to expect from a little town in the middle of nowhere.
No! There are no malls, petrol stations, fast food outlets, cinema's, night clubs, high schools, sirens, emergency services, traffic lights, street lights and tar roads.
What you do find in this small town.
A traffic jam is cows or sheep on gravel roads, kids playing in the streets because its still safe to do so, some dogs walking free in the streets while others are chained up, self made entertainment where people gather, light a fire, talk and occasionally listen to loud music. There are no big shops , it's mostly a farming community which means they work hard in the extreme heat and freezing cold and as hard as they work they play hard too. Unlimited fresh air, magnificent birds, wildlife, ( buck, foxes, owls, rabbits and hares, rooikat, porcupines, feral cats ) and so much more ( snakes, ticks) , mountain trails which for safety reasons you do require a permit, small weekend markets, and a coffee shop and pub restaurant only open on weekends and holidays.
To cut a long story shorter, Tesselaarsdal is a small historical , forgotten town. The community carry the history and although there no museums and the old farm houses and cottages are still lived in, there remains all the remnants of a past life before chaos became the norm. Sometimes it's so quiet that you think you the only living person and other times there is a hive of activity and loud music and car ho***rs as form of greetings. Sometimes there is electricity and ample water and sometimes you just need to light a fire, braai , lay down low and feel the heartbeat of the earth while gazing at the star filled sky.
So yes, Tesselaarsdal is a town occupied by a diverse and wonderful community. It's as predictable as it's unpredictable, quiet and tranquil and the next minute alive and lived in.
I can't keep neighbour's quiet and stop dogs barking, I can't pump up the jam and create excitement when things are quiet, I cant promise the power wont go out or that there will always be cell and internet connection. What I can do is supply an outlet so you can experience small town living, breath fresh air, unwind, see the stars, see the sun rise and set in an aura filled, clean, very magical home.
There is no time in Tesselaarsdal, everything just happens when it happens.
It is what it is and it is amazing!
