Meet little Luna ( my daughter's kitty) and Oliver. A bit like lady and the tramp really. Luna is Siamese and beautiful. Oliver is scrawny, snotty and has ears like a bat. He did however, run straight up my leg, all the way to my shoulder where he sat down and purred loudly into my ear. Our local animal shelter in Gansbaai is so full of kittens that I just couldn't resist. We are treating his snotty nose with steam followed by heated sardines. He can actually smell those and gets very excited to eat. Luna is obsessed with him, as am I. He is such a little character!

Today is going to be another hot one. I have been procrastinating on harvesting the basil as everything feels like a bit of a chore in the heat we have been experiencing. However, with a house full of teenagers, pesto frozen in cubes is very handy for quick and easy pasta pesto lunches...so I shall steel myself and get busy.

I'm an early riser, so I volunteered to let my boys hen's out every morning. It is one of my favorite parts of my day. To witness every dawn is such a blessing. After yesterday's crazy heat, the farm is cool and quiet. The ladies are so happy to be wandering around on the cool green grass.

In the early morning light, the grass around our pond is just teeming with these tiny baby raucous toads. I can't describe how little they are. I am too scared to walk because they are everywhere, the lawn is teeming with perfectly formed little toadlets.

I snuck up to the coop at dawn. Usually they hear me coming and all start getting ready to exit which is a rather noisy affair. This time I got to listen to their sleepy sounds...so cute!
