Aca, we need your help to name the streets within the Academia premises. You will have the opportunity to propose an overall theme for the streets. Please keep in mind that visual symbols evoke different emotions and experiences amongst people, especially in a diversified and historically divided country like South Africa. Therefore, please suggest themes for the street names that allow for the inclusion of a variety of expressions, identities and histories.

Our Story

Academia is a unique residence. As the only affiliated private residence, it offers the best of two worlds: the same academic, sporting and cultural ties as any other Stellenbosch University residence but with the freedom, security and opportunities offered by a standalone establishment.

Academia is set in the heart of ‘Eikestad’ (the ‘City of Oaks’). This means not only that classes are within walking distance, but that students can immerse themselves in the full social, cultural and educational experience of living in a university town.

The complex comprises of 26 blocks totalling 954 beds in a mix of accommodation types. Some of the ground-floor units may be adapted for use by handicapped people.

Academia is set in landscaped park-like surrounds, with 24-hour security-controlled access. There are CCTV cameras in and around the premises, and officers on foot patrol. Academia boasts many other facilities such as an outdoor gym, study centre and deli.
