Season shift at Marshden 🍂
We started autumn with a heatwave, but cooler days have finally arrived. The vineyards around us are harvested and, as always, the garden is now taking over our lives again. Entrance borders are prepped, composted and planted, the kitchen garden is ready for winter vegetables, and tree clearing means we now own what feels like an entire forest worth of wood and woodchips for the colder months ahead.
Vineyard progress continues — soil samples are done to see what we can actually grow. We are very lucky to be surrounded by knowledgeable winemakers who are patiently helping us pretend we know what we are doing on this part of the Marshden journey.
Our guest house has been full and we are incredibly grateful to all our guests who chose Marshden this season. We look forward to welcoming you back again.
Winston, the baby Ridgeback, has followed up MuffinGate with FlourGate after stealing kitchen flour and distributing it enthusiastically around the garden like some sort of chaotic baker. He is now also “helping” by digging up the new plantings and keeping the gardeners emotionally resilient.
April will bring some building works, and we will continue planting the rest of the garden and the kitchen garden. We are excited to see the next phase of Marshden begin — and slightly concerned about what Winston will do next?
