The rain has returned to Wild Spirit. 🌧️🌿

Thankfully, unlike the last big storm, it seems to have left most of the dramatic wind at home.

After weeks of chainsaws, clearing fallen trees, and discovering branches in places branches really shouldn't be, we're quite happy with this arrangement.

The rivers are flowing beautifully, the forest is looking greener by the day, and everything feels properly hydrated again.

No complaints from us. Just rain on the roof, mist drifting through the trees, and that fresh earthy smell that makes you want to cancel your plans and stare into the forest for a while.

Winter in the Tsitsikamma doing what it does best.

There is something deeply healing about slowing down with dogs. No rush. No agenda. Just paws on the path, sunlight through the trees, and a reminder that sometimes the best thing you can do is wander a little and wonder a lot.
Golden leaves underfoot. Crisp forest air. The occasional stick that absolutely had to be investigated.
Squeaks and Gandi have taken their self-appointed roles as forest guides very seriously. One minute we're peacefully admiring the changing season, the next we're stopping every three metres for a very important sniff inspection.
Gandi, our gentle rescue giant, moves through the forest like he's always belonged here. Squeaks remains convinced every walk is an expedition of national importance.

Autumn has arrived in the GardenRoute, painting the forest in shades of gold and reminding us that letting go can be beautiful too. 🍂🐾

Meet Gandalf.
Aka Gandi.
The newest member of the Wild Spirit Backpackers Lodge family. 💓
This beautiful boy arrived all the way from the Transkei after a rescue mission was set into motion when we heard about his situation. At only 3 years old, Gandi had been neglected, painfully skinny, covered in matted dreadlocks, and was heartbreakingly close to being put down.The moment he arrived we all fell in love ❤️
Now he’s been well fed, brushed, loved, spoiled rotten, and slowly remembering that humans can be kind. Beneath all that tangled fur was the gentlest soul. Calm. Steady. Wise old mountain sage energy in a giant fluffy body.
It already feels like he’s always belonged here. Like he just wandered out of an ancient fantasy novel, crossed a few dimensions, and casually decided to retire in the Wild Spirit forest.🌳

NO RAIN. NO RAINBOW. 🌈
After the wild storms, flooded roads, fallen trees, power outages and all the chaos nature threw our way… the sky gifted us this double rainbow stretching across the Wild Spirit forest and the majestic Tsitsikamma Mountains like a giant gift card saying “you survived!"
Right now, due to the recent weather damage and ongoing power issues in The Crags, we’re relying on backup generators to pump water from the borehole and keep things flowing as smoothly as possible. We do still have wifi, accommodation is available at slightly discounted rates during this period, and everyone here is pulling together beautifully to keep the magic alive. ✨️
Wild Spirit has always been about connection, resilience, community and unforgettable experiences. Thank you to every single person helping support this place through challenging times. We know things are tough for many people right now, and your support means more than you know. 🌿✨

The waterfall is absolutely WILD right now. 🌊
In all our years at Wild Spirit, we’ve never experienced this much rain. The rivers are roaring, the waterfall is overflowing, and the whole forest feels alive with the power of water. 💧🙏
The weather has definitely been intense, and we’ve had quite a few trees come down around the property, but thankfully no major damage and everyone is safe. Nature said “deep cleanse activated” and she committed!
Bookings will reopen from Wednesday once the worst of the weather has passed and we’ve had time to make the camping areas and pathways safe again.
Until then, stay warm, stay safe, and please be careful on the roads out there. Mother Nature is currently on maximum drama mode🌧️🌿
