When nature comes knocking… 🦎

As the warmer months approach, the indigenous bush around Rockwood comes alive and occasionally, our little critter neighbours may decide to pay you a visit indoors too. 🐛

It’s all part of staying amongst nature, and one of the little joys of a Karkloof escape. Keep doors and windows closed when possible, and if a curious visitor does make its way inside, simply let our team know and we’ll happily assist.

After all, at Rockwood, you’re not just staying in nature, you’re staying amongst it. 🌿

The Farm house sleeps 8 Guests in 4 Bedrooms. The house rests on the edge of a dam with spectacular views of the Karkloof Forest and Spitzkop Farm grasslands.

The Farm cottage Sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms. The lounge and kitchen are open plan with a wood burning fireplace and doors onto a covered veranda with a Big Green Egg and magnificent views of Spitzkop Farm and the Karkloof Forest.

The Mountain Lodge sleeps 6 adults in 3 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms. Rockwood Mountain Cabin is situated on the edge of a natural clearing in a secluded location with spectacular views of the Karkloof Forest.

The Rockwood Forest lodge Sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms. Escape from everything digital as there is limited cell phone reception around the lodge and no cell phone or wifi access inside the lodge.

For bird lovers, Rockwood is a special place to slow down, listen and look a little closer.

Set within the Karkloof Nature Reserve, the lodges are surrounded by indigenous mist-belt forest, grassland and wetlands creating a rich habitat for an incredible variety of birdlife.

More than 185 species are listed in the reserve, with the chance of spotting special species including Cape Parrot, Narina Trogon, Crested Guineafowl, African Crowned Eagle and Orange Ground-Thrush.

Take a quiet walk through the forest, keep your binoculars close and see what you can discover along the way.

Guided birding walks can also be arranged with local guides.
