A safari is undeniably romantic, whether celebrating a relationship milestone or falling in love for the first time.

Ants Hill is designed to seduce, from the Waterbergs dramatic landscapes and wide, open spaces to the endless opportunities for private dining and romantic sunsets.

The beautiful Waterberg offers so much to explore not only the abundens of game but also the beautiful ancient Topographie and different landscapes. With only a 3 hour drive from Johannesburg it is perfectly located for a trip into the beautiful wild side of Africa.

There is something incredibly special about experiencing the bush on foot. Suddenly, every broken branch, footprint, scent and movement in the grass tells a story, if you know how to read it.

And that’s where our incredible guides come in. With years of experience and an unbelievable ability to read the bush, they can turn a single track in the sand into a story of where an animal has been, where it might be heading, and what it may have been doing along the way.

Tracking rhinos on foot is a completely different kind of safari. It slows you down and makes you feel truly immersed in the landscape. Every sense is switched on as you follow the signs left behind by one of Africa’s most iconic animals.

Rhinos may be huge, but they are surprisingly dependent on their senses, with a particularly strong sense of smell and excellent hearing, while their eyesight is relatively poor.

They also leave behind plenty of clues for those who know what to look for.

A bush walk isn’t about rushing to the next sighting. It’s about discovering everything that happens between the sightings.

At Ant Africa Safaris, conservation has never been an afterthought, it has always been the heart of everything we do.

Our goal is simple: to leave the Waterberg healthier, wilder, and more resilient than we inherited it, so future generations can experience the same magic that inspires us every single day.

Much of conservation happens quietly behind the scenes. It’s the long hours of monitoring wildlife, managing habitats, maintaining healthy ecosystems, protecting genetic diversity, treating injured animals, and making countless decisions that put nature first.

Often, it’s the work that no one sees that makes the biggest difference.

But we also believe conservation should be shared.

That’s why we invite our guests to become part of the journey, to ask questions, get hands-on, and experience what it truly takes to protect a wild place.

The lodges at Ant Africa Safaris are not just places to rest your head, they are havens of peace and comfort.

Each room has a distinctive style and offers a cozy sanctuary from which to savor every moment of your stay in the heart of the African wilderness.

The Hill Lodge

Built on the edge of a cliff, it enjoys breathtaking views, with spacious rooms and vast folding doors.
The thatched roof of the lodge helps it blend into the bush, while exotic furniture and brightly coloured African fabrics make it both sophisticated and comfortable.

The separate cottages are uniquely designed and the individual bathrooms are spectacular, offering guests sunken baths and waterfall showers. Set in boulders on the edge of the cliff, the heated swimming pool enjoys a fabulous panorama across the reserve, encouraging you to relax there in between your horse rides.

ANT’S NEST

Where it all began. Lying in a natural amphitheatre with its wide verandahs, the original homestead has a classically relaxed African atmosphere. Surrounded by open plains where horses, rhino and other game frequently graze in extremely close proximity, don’t be surprised to have a white rhino grazing 10 metres from your pool lounger.

BUSHWILLOW CAMP

Bushwillow camp has a row of cottages neatly nestled leading to the main lodge area and perfectly positioned for setting off on horse rides through the bush or for spending the day off surrounded by the noises and sightings.

Experiencing the bush from the back of a horse is something truly special.

Without the noise of an engine, you become part of the landscape, allowing for incredibly natural encounters with wildlife.

Our horses roam freely within the reserve and have shared this land with the wildlife for years. The animals know them, trust them, and simply carry on with their day.

The result?
Close, peaceful encounters that are guided by respect, patience, and the animals own choice.

At Ant Africa Safaris, conservation is at the heart of everything we do.

Safari is one of the greatest classrooms there is. Away from screens and busy schedules, children learn by exploring, asking questions, following tracks, and experiencing nature firsthand. The lessons learned in the bush are often the ones that stay with us the longest.

Watching a child see a giraffe for the very first time, learn to read animal tracks, or quietly stroke one of our horses reminds us just how magical the bush really is.

These are the moments that spark curiosity, build confidence, and inspire a lifelong love for wildlife and conservation.

Whether you’re young or simply young at heart, the African bush has a wonderful way of bringing families together and creating memories you’ll talk about for years to come.

There’s no better way to end a day in the African bush than with a sundowner.

After a day filled with adventure, we slow things down, pour a well-earned G&T, and watch the sun disappear beyond the Waterberg horizon.

As the sky turns shades of gold, orange, and pink, the bush begins to change. The daytime sounds fade, the nocturnal world starts to wake, and for a few quiet moments, all that matters is being right there, taking it all in.

These are the moments that make safari so special. The moments you don’t rush. The moments you’ll remember long after you’ve gone home.

Here’s to good company and unforgettable sunsets.
