OPENING OF THE VAAL RIVER’S BOATING SEASON
NOW: HERITAGE DAY – THURSDAY, 24 SEPTEMBER 2026

High winds are forecast on the Vaal River for this Saturday, 5 September - and with hundreds of boats involved, safety comes first!

So we’re moving our wonderful family day on the river to Heritage Day – a Public Holiday – Thursday, 24 September!

And actually… what better day could there be? 🇿🇦

The Opening of the Vaal River’s Boating Season is all about celebrating our river, our boats, our families, our flags, our gees and being proudly South African - exactly what Heritage Day is about!

☀️ Hopefully warmer weather
🇿🇦 Even MORE South African gees
🚤 Same flotilla
📍 Same meeting points
⏰ Same times
🎉 Same arrangements
❤️ Just a new - and rather perfect - date!
And instead of watching the Boks play the All Blacks afterwards… hopefully we’ll be celebrating the Boks having WON the series! 🇿🇦🏉

Good Day. We at Vaal River Lodge and Spa have been made aware of a booking scam that someone is running claiming to be us. Please note that the only booking method we use is whattsapp or email to [email protected]. WhatsApp numbers Angie 079 551 9939 / Laurel 082 883 7505. We do not bank with FNB as this is the account he uses for you to make payment. If you have fallen victim to this scam, please contact us immediately as we have opened a case of fraud against these people. I will post screenshot below of the number that is claiming to be Vaal Rive Lodge and Spa. Regards Angie and Laurel

⛵Hundreds of boats. One river. One unforgettable flotilla.

The Official Opening of the Boating Season on the Vaal River takes place on Saturday, 5 September 2026, bringing together boat owners, families, river lovers and local venues for one massive celebration on the water.

Join the movement as boats cruise together in a spectacular Vaal River flotilla, with the official opening declared at 2pm. The big meet-up point for up-river and down-river boats is at 1pm opposite Vaal River Lodge, before all participating boats travel slowly together towards the Baddrift Bridge.

This is a no-charge event, and everyone is welcome to be part of the atmosphere from the water or from participating river venues.

Bring your South African spirit, decorate your boat, fly your SA flags and join the competitions for best-decorated boat, most SA flags, best Springbok-themed boat, best themed riverfront property and best music and gees vibe.

Then stay for the big match as the Boks take on the All Blacks at 5pm, shown on big screens at river venues.

All participating boats must be fully compliant, with a valid skipper’s licence and up-to-date Certificate of Fitness.

📍Meet-up: 1pm opposite Vaal River Lodge
Official opening: 2pm
