The Quagga was once hunted to extinction in the late 1800s. The last known Quagga died in Amsterdam Zoo in 1883.

Thanks to the incredible Quagga Project, these unique animals were brought back through selective breeding. Today, there are over 300 Rau Quaggas, with 69 living at L’Ermitage Quagga Lodge.

From August to September, the normally dry landscape transforms into carpets of daisies, vygies, and succulents. Around Velddrif and the Berg River, the combination of fertile riverbanks, open veld, and coastal conditions creates a breathtaking variety of blooms.

What makes it so special?
