Witty Billy Hare has been part of the heart and soul of Wakkerstroom for the past decade, and what a gift he is to our little village! His love for his rescue donkeys is something truly special – each one with its own story, each one finding a safe haven thanks to Billy’s big heart. And when Billy sets his mind to something, you can be sure it turns into a resounding success! From painting our beloved landmarks like the oxwagon and the Staffordshire Knot on Ossewakop, to rolling up his sleeves and fixing potholes, or bringing history to life with the ever-popular historical weekend – Billy does it all with passion and flair.

Behind this force of nature is his wonderful wife, Nolene, whose unwavering support keeps everything running smoothly. Together, they make a formidable team, pouring their energy, kindness, and dedication into everything they do. It’s people like Billy and Nolene who add that extra magic to Wakkerstroom and remind us just how special our village really is.
