When the day slows down… 🌅

Late afternoon at Forellenhof, when the light turns soft, the hills grow quiet and there’s a gentle hint of spring in the air. 🌸

The farm seems to take a deep breath — the birds settle, the breeze whispers through the bare branches, and everything feels peaceful and unhurried.

Just one of those beautiful moments when you realise: this is what coming to the countryside is all about. 🌿

A Remarkable Couple in Our Community

It is a privilege to introduce two truly remarkable people who have become a special part of the Wakkerstroom community — George and Matilda. Through their weekly blog, they share thoughtful reflections and a contemplative approach to life that encourages us to pause, look deeper and perhaps see ourselves and the world around us in a different way. Their retreats offer a space for connection and reflection, while their remarkable creative talents — from writing and sculpturing to pottery — reveal the depth and beauty of their work. What makes George and Matilda particularly special, however, is their extraordinary ability to connect with people on a deeper level and to speak to something within us — our inner beings. They bring creativity, wisdom, warmth and genuine humanity into our community, and we are fortunate to have them here in Wakkerstroom.

There's magic in the air. A perfect winter afternoon, where the moon greets the fading light, the world falls silent, and for a moment time stands still. These are moments that feed the soul.

Winter has a way of painting the sky with whispers of pink, peach and lavender.
At Forellenhof we call this magical moment "Candy Floss Time" : my husband's perfect name for these dreamy pastel sunsets.
A gentle reminder that some of life's sweetest moments are simply found by looking up.

Meet William Wilkinson: Wakkerstroom's Bee Keeper (definately not an apiarist!) and his artist wife Juanita.
"Apiarsts don't get stung," says William. "I do, often."
For the past 12 years William has been producing liquid gold, battling frost, building his own hives, and working after dark when the bees are in a better mood than he is.
His latest achievement? Breeding his own queen bees to help grow healthy new swarms.
By his side is his wife Juanita - talented artist, biggest supporter, and the queen bee of the operation. Together they're one of Wakkerstroom's most special couples: he creates honey and she creates art, and both make our town a sweeter place.

Meet Wakkerstroom’s unsung heroes – David and his sister-in-law, Riekie! Running the Mini Market / Fast Foods 7 days a week is no small feat, but these two make it look easy (well… almost 😉).
From clean, well-stocked shelves to their famous Russians and chips that draw fans from far and wide, they keep everyone coming back for more. And David? A true connoisseur of perfectly fried fish!
For decades, the Mini Market / Fast Foods has been a cornerstone of Wakkerstroom – full of character, great food, and even better people. David and Riekie are truly the heart behind it all.
Next time you’re there… don’t skip the chips!
