We moved to Pretoria from Cape Town on the 1st of January 1998.
We stayed in a Guest house in Pretoria East for a month while looking for rental. accommodation. We viewed about 5 houses and all of a sudden they were no longer available. My husband's Manager who was white would call, the place would be available again while the previous night it was no longer available to us.
The estate agent was embarrassed and scared to tell us that the owners did not want black tenants. We decided to buy instead.
I vowed that one day, I would do an accommodation business that was affordable, non racial and non xenophobic in Pretoria East.
