WORLD RHINO DAY 🦏

There is something about seeing a rhino in the wild that stays with you.

Perhaps it is their size, their ancient presence, or simply the realisation that an animal that has walked this earth for millions of years still needs us to stand up for its future.

The threat of poaching is still a daily issue, and the future for these incredible beings remains uncertain.

And that is why awareness matters.

Conservation is not only about the people carrying ri**es in the field or the teams monitoring populations. It is about creating a world where rhinos have value alive, where protecting them becomes something communities, travellers and generations to come all have a reason to care about.

At Dulini, we are fortunate to share time with these extraordinary animals in their natural environment. Every sighting is a privilege, and every rhino seen in the wild is a reminder of what we are working to preserve.

For the rhinos we see today - and for those we hope our children will still see tomorrow.

After a full night of grazing, a mother hippo returns to the safety of the water with her tiny calf close by her side.

Despite their formidable size, hippos are not entirely beyond the reach of predators. As they venture further from the safety of water in search of better grazing, even these giants can fall victim to a large pride of lions, while a young calf may also draw the attention of a passing hyena clan.

For now, the safest place for this little one remains close beside its mother, following her back to the refuge of the water.

This Youth Day, we celebrate the youth whose determination and resilience are helping shape a brighter future for their communities.

At Dulini, we are passionate about supporting initiatives that create opportunities and uplift lives. In this interview, we share the inspiring story of Nonhlahla Mkhonto, who grew up in a community bordering the reserve and, despite significant challenges, has excelled academically and continues to build a promising future.

She shares the impact that Dulini’s Project Dignity has had on her life. By providing access to essential menstrual health products, the initiative helps young women stay in school, complete their education, and pursue their dreams.

Nonhlahla is a powerful example of what can be achieved through perseverance, support, and access to opportunity. She has become a role model for young girls in her community, proving that circumstances do not define potential.

Today, we celebrate Nonhlahla and the many young people whose courage and determination continue to inspire the next generation.
