🌿 The iconic Kaaimans River Bridge

One of Wilderness’ most recognisable landmarks, the historic Kaaimans River Railway Bridge spans the beautiful Kaaimans River mouth between Wilderness and George.

Construction began in 1925, and the bridge was completed in 1928. It formed part of the railway line carrying the famous Outeniqua Choo Tjoe, as well as passengers and freight along the Garden Route.

The bridge was recognised as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 2019, and in 2021 it was declared a provincial heritage site, recognising its historical and engineering significance.

Today, the bridge remains one of those unforgettable Wilderness views — surrounded by lush green hills, the Kaaimans River and the Indian Ocean. 🌊🌿
