iKhayalamafu Mountain Hideaway and Private Nature Reserve Drakensberg self-catering accommodation. Our love affair with the Drakensberg started over 35 years ago. All this and more, even free Wi-Fi.

In 2003 we realized our dream of creating a mountain eco-estate high in the Monk’s Cowl Reserve, closer to paradise than anywhere else in the Champagne Valley. We are completely off-grid and run on solar and hydro power, our water comes directly from fresh streams and is only five minutes old when it reaches us, we harvest our own wood for fireplaces and braais, we have eradicated all alien plant

species, we grow all our own vegetables, and we even manage our own hives for some of the world’s sweetest honey. Hiking through mountains and forests, under waterfalls and over ancient rocks; wildlife on your doorstep; log fires; moonlit and starry nights. Your cabin is fully equipped. Peace, quiet, solitude, and space for reflection.

It has been 23 years. We arrived here on the edge of the world with little idea of the adventure that lay ahead. We developed our square kilometre into a beautiful and peaceful retreat, and we built a thriving business from nothing. It is a source of immense satisfaction to have been the custodian of this place.

But now it is time to move on, to be closer to family, to enjoy a well-earned rest. We are pleased beyond measure to have found the perfect buyers, who will continue to take the utmost care of this mountain paradise.

Possibly what we shall miss most are our guests, many of whom have become friends over the years. We thank you for the shared moments, for the laughter, for the brilliant photographs. We think you will like the new owners. While maintaining the authenticity of your mountain experience, we are sure they will add even greater joy and pleasure through various improvements.

We shall be around for a few months yet as we manage the transition, but if we never meet again, adieu, and may your God go with you. Blessings and love from Paul and Ricky.
