Did you know the Drakensberg was once a volcanic landscape? 🌋🏔️

It’s hard to picture when you’re looking at those peaceful, snow-capped peaks today, but the mountains have an incredible geological history.

Around 183 million years ago, huge volcanic eruptions sent layers of molten rock across the region. As the lava cooled, it formed the basalt that makes up much of the Drakensberg we see today.

So next time you’re looking at the Berg, remember you’re looking at the remains of an ancient volcanic landscape. Pretty incredible, right? 🌋
