Spring has arrived at Rose Cottage! 🌸

After the quiet beauty of winter, our gardens are beginning to wake up again — fresh green leaves, little bursts of colour and the promise of warmer days in the Drakensberg.

There’s something special about this time of year at the lodge. The gardens slowly come alive, the mornings become a little warmer, and nature reminds us to slow down and enjoy the simple things. 🌱

Okay… we weren’t quite able to roll a snowman 😂⛄️, but we got pretty darn close!

The further we climbed, the colder it got — and that temperature drop was definitely real! 🥶❄️

Standing there, surrounded by those magnificent mountains with the snow so close, was definitely one of our biggest highlights of this winter. ✨

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that start with, “Hmm… I wonder if we can get a little closer?” 😉

Worth every single step. 🥾🤍

The road to the white stuff… 🥾❄️🏔️

If the snow was calling us yesterday, this was our answer! 😉

We set off from Monks Cowl, heading up towards Crystal Falls, on to Blindmans Corner, and then looping back via Keartlands Pass.

What a hike! 🌿🥾 The trail takes you through such beautiful, changing scenery, with the magnificent Drakensberg revealing itself from a completely different angle around every corner.

And, of course, the higher we climbed… the closer we got to that tempting white stuff! 🤍❄️

A definite must-do hike if you want to experience the mountains from a few different perspectives. And yesterday, with the snow dusting the peaks, it was extra special. ✨

But did we actually get close enough to the snow? 👀

The snow was calling… ❄️🏔️

We woke up yesterday morning to the most beautiful sight — the mountains all dressed up in white. 🤍

And while the view from our entrance was pretty spectacular… well, seeing the snow from a distance just wasn’t going to cut it! 😂

So naturally, we did what any sensible people would do… we put on our hiking shoes and went looking for it! 🥾❄️

Because sometimes you just have to get a little closer to the magic. ✨
