If you’ve recently started following us, welcome, we’re so glad you’ve stumbled across us 👋

We are Malama Umoyo, a small luxury bush camp on the banks of the Luangwa River in South Luangwa, Zambia.

What makes us different isn’t just the wildlife, although there’s plenty of that.

It’s waking up to the sounds of the bush from your cottage. Watching elephants wander past camp. Spending hours on the deck listening to hippos in the river below. Enjoying a sundowner as the sun sets over the Luangwa.

It’s having the space to slow down, switch off and experience Africa at a different pace.

And it’s the people. Our team, our local community, and the guests who arrive as strangers and often leave as friends.

Malama Umoyo isn’t about rushing from sighting to sighting or ticking animals off a list. It’s about experiencing the Africa we fell in love with, and sharing it with others.

We’d love to welcome you to this special corner of Zambia someday.

Did you know South Luangwa is home to its very own hot springs?

Hidden away in the Chichele area, these mineral-rich waters emerge naturally from underground, creating one of the valley’s most fascinating hidden gems.

The name “Chichele” even comes from the local Chewa word for “salt”, a nod to the area’s mineral deposits.

Just another reason South Luangwa never stops surprising us.
