A pod of hippos rests on a small island along the Kafue River, their calves tucked safely beside them.

From the water, you can hear the deep grunts and splashes that mark their territory.

One of the many special sites you can experience at Mayukuyuku Bush Camp.

Glide quietly along the Kafue River and watch the wild unfold from the water’s edge.

Boat cruises offer a peaceful perspective — elephants drinking, hippos surfacing, and birds gathering along the banks.

As the light shifts across the river, every moment feels unhurried and unforgettable.

A guided bush walk offers a slower, more intimate way to experience the wild, one careful step at a time.

Accompanied by a guide and armed scout, you’ll learn to read the land — from animal tracks to the smallest plants and insects.

Wake up to the sound of the river flowing past your doorstep.

At Mayukuyuku, our small and intimate camp features just four luxury en-suite tents — each with a thatched roof, private veranda, and a hammock made for slow mornings and sunset watching.

And because safari days should start gently, we bring tea or coffee right to your tent at the time you choose. Sip it on the veranda, watch the river drift by, and let the bush come alive around you.

Tucked beneath the shade of lightly scattered woodland and resting along the banks of the Kafue River, Mayukuyuku Bush Camp takes its name from the sound of *“water hitting rocks”* — a nod to the gentle rapids just upstream.

With the camp facing a peaceful river island, every tent looks out onto views that stretch across the water and into the wild. It’s not unusual for guests to spot wildlife right from camp — antelope grazing at the river’s edge, elephants wandering through the trees, or the splash of a hippo breaking the silence.

Here, the safari experience begins before you even step into a vehicle.

A lion’s stare is unlike anything else in the wild — focused, silent, and full of power.

As it locks eyes on its next meal, the world around it seems to fall away. No roar, no rush… just patience, instinct, and that fierce intensity that defines Africa’s apex predator.

During the dry season, the Kafue National Park transforms into a landscape of warm golden grass, open plains, and shrinking waterholes that draw wildlife into full view.

With clear skies, cool mornings, and long sunny days, it’s one of the best times of year for unforgettable game drives and riverfront sightings.

There’s nothing quite like meeting the gaze of a leopard.

Sitting perfectly still, muscles coiled beneath a coat of golden rosettes, it stares ahead with calm intensity — focused, calculating, and completely in command of its world.

Welcome to Paradise...

Mayukuyuku Luxury Bush Camp, operated by Kafue Camps & Safaris, is located on the banks of the Kafue River in one of the most picturesque spots in the whole of Kafue National Park.

The camp is just downstream of a number of small rapids and we face a small island, so there are spectacular views in many directions, offering excellent wildlife sightings even when in the camp. Kafue Camps & Safaris is a majority Zambian owned safari company and we believe in investing in Zambia and its people. We provide international standards whilst retaining a uniquely Zambian feel to your safari.
