A Waterberry Diary: In the company of birds

Birdwatching at Waterberry is an invitation to slow down and observe - you don’t have to go far! Step into the garden, sit by the water’s edge, join a Zambezi cruise or woodland walks with an expert bird guide.

There’s always something to catch your eye so pick up your binos and our handy bird checklist and see what you can find!

A Waterberry Diary: Every child is a rainbow

At Tukongote School, colour is everywhere! The classrooms are filled with drawings, handprints, and words to remind every child how much they matter and what they can achieve for with the beauty of education.

“Inside every child is a rainbow waiting to shine” isn’t just decoration. It’s what we believe at Tukongote.

A Waterberry Diary: We love chitenge

Every Waterberry guest finds a colourful handmade chitenge robe in their room – to wear after a shower, at the pool (and sometimes even to breakfast!).

They’re also on sale in the shop where 100% of sales revenue funds our school. Lots of guests buy one to take home to support the school and to remind them of beautiful Zambia.

A Waterberry Diary: At The Market

You can learn so much of a country from its markets.

On a visit to Maramba Market in Livingstone with one of our guides you’ll see every day Zambian life - from stalls stacked high with beans, grains, dried fish, roots, colourful herbs & spices to bicycle spares, pots and pans, wonderful chitenge fabrics – it feels like not much has changed in generations.

A Waterberry Diary: In The Details

Beautifully carved traditional games, old school maps, paintings by talented local artists, colourful fabrics... Together, they shape the soul of the lodge and the farmhouse.

Some travelled far, others found just down the road – all part of the unique style that makes Waterberry absolutely different from anywhere else!

It’s the little things that make a place feel like home.

A Waterberry Diary: Where the Gardens Grow

Wherever you stay at Waterberry, at the lodge, the Woodlands, or the River Farmhouse, you’ll find yourself surrounded by something truly magical: the gardens.
Shaded pathways, flowering bushes, birdsongs, and butterflies… It’s a place to breathe, to wander, to sit with a book or a cup of tea, and simply be.

Our team takes real pride in caring for every leaf and petal, and it shows. Our gardens are loved, not just landscaped, and that makes all the difference.
